my yorkie puppy coat--i need help!! okay I have a 3 month old yorkie and what I've noticed is that she is going through a coat transition. I brush her daily but she would have some area near the roots of her coat that has small matting. and if i try to untangle the matt the whole part comes out it's a little hard to describe but i will try. It kind of look like having your long hair cut and the hairdresser placed a rubber band around it and she would cut above the rubber band therefore the hair is held together with a rubber band. My questions are is that normal? does that mean her puppy coat are shedding? what tools and sprays can i use to help me with detangling the matts without hurting my yorkie? Suggestions are appreciated thank you. ps i love this site people are kind enough to help me with my questions and concerns. :D |
My yorkies don't ever get matts but I have persian cats that will get them. I know what you're describing so far as combing the matts out. You get a matt when the hair gets tangled...if it's not brushed out it will form a matt. Yorkies don't shed but will lose some hair every day just like we do, and when hair is tangled into a matt, some of the hair might have fallen out but is trapped in the matt. So when you comb the matt out, it comes out in a clump it that makes sense. Also when you get a large tangle or matt, combing it out will break some of that hair off, so the combination of the breakage and naturally falling out will cause it to come out in the clump like that. I really like Chris Christensen Ice on Ice spray. I use it after I bathe my dogs before i comb out and blowdry. It leaves them really shiny. It is also a detangling/dematting spray. You can spray it on the matt and it's supposed to make combing them out much easier |
