Finding his place???
 

I'm looking for advise on what Barley's thinking. I've observed that at feeding time (I don't free feed) or walk time or outside time or loving on them, Barley jumps up on Garrett (my Great Pyrenees) and bites at his sides, chest, back legs, what ever he can get his mouth on. We have only had Barley for three weeks now and during the first few days he didn't behave this way.

My thoughts are that he is trying to show Garrett that he's (Barley's) more important to me than Garrett is. What are your thoughts?

Since I first observing him doing this I have been very careful to do everything for Garrett and Mischa first and Barley last.

I blows my mind that he is doing this as Garrett is 105 lbs more then he is.

I'm very lucky that Garrett is so sweet natured, he doesn't do anything at all to Barley. He just continues what ever he is doing.

The one thing I do that I'm wondering may be causing some issues, is when my husband is working nights, I allow Barley to sleep with me. (Hubby has phobia about dogs in beds, but doesn't mind them on the couch and getting kisses.) Should I stop letting him sleep with me?

I think part of it might be that Barley was neutered right before I got him so he hasn't had much time to get over the hormone thing.

I do crate all the dogs in their own crates and they each have their own bowls and feeding locations in the kitchen.

I've also seen some guarding issues with his toys and food. For food I put it up. If it's toys I watch to see if it's play, if he runs at the other dogs and then stands over the toy I put them up.

I hate being strick with him because I know he had a rough past live, but I know he needs structure as well.

I will be logging off soon as I get up very early for work, but will check back tomorrow. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry, I don't really have any advice. But I'll bump this up, I'm sure someone has seen this behavior and can help. :)
