Is Buddy different from the rest?
 

Not every night but most nights when it starts to get dark Buddy will
take a bone or his baby and go under the chair in the living room
guarding it. Once in awhile he will join me in the family room but
most nights he prefers to be there. His personality is totally different
at night! If I go to give him a snack he will happily join me in the kitchen
eat it and run to protect that damn toy. He does not do this in the daytime.
He's loving, friendly and playfull and shares all his toys with me. I have worked
on that over the years.
Two nights ago I decided to pick up all the toys so he could not get to them.
I felt bad because he loves this rubber clown to death but I wanted to see
what would happen without it being around.

Walla, a totally different Buddy. He has spent the last two nights with me
watching TV.
There is no question this dog has given me a run for my money over the
last 5yrs and I have worked very hard to make him a good pet but he
certainly has had his quirks over this time.
Does anyone else have a Yorkie with a day and night personality?
I find it very strange that he thinks he has to guard this toy when it
get's dark out. I do not allow it in the bedroom when we sleep because
of this. Take it away and he's fine. Is this strange or what?

Buddy sounds like my Fletcher. He does not guard a toy but he has his quirks at night. Some nights he is a sweet loving cuddly puppy, other nights, he prefers to lay in the kitchen alone on a blanket (not even his bed) away from us and if he comes over for even a minute and we look at him or talk to him, he'll go back to the kitchen alone. If we ignore him he'll jump on the couch and lay down away from us and eventually come to us to lay down IF we totally ignore him. As soon as we give him attention he takes off. His personality definately changes as day turns to night. He gets skittish and meek when its dark out, but during the day he is a happy puppy!

Wow...that's different. Do you pick up all the toys at night? He might think he needs to protect it from being put away. Yorkies are so smart!!!

My baby Chloe is so calm and sweet all day. When it's bedtime she turns into Mario Andretti! She runs around my room. Runs circles around me. It's so cute!!! I love watching her do it!:aimeeyork

That makes me alittle happy to know it's just not Buddy. It definately
is different for sure. This has had me alittle worried for sometime
but you just made me feel better.

You are welcome! I am glad I put your mind at ease! :) Hearing buddy's personality change at night makes me feel a little more comfortable about my Fletcher also. I have been talking to my boyfriend though lately about this and he thinks I should take Fletcher to the vet and have a check up just in case. Also I am thinking about finding a place locally that does agility training and signing Fletcher up for it this summer.

We had a major (small) breakthrough last night with him and I was thrilled! He is fearful of EVERYTHING, but the dishwasher is the WORST. He sits in a corner and shakes. Its so sad :( Last night I poured some of the juice from the pork we had for dinner on the open door of the dishwasher. I got him near the dishwasher with the smell and then picked him up and put him on the open door of the dishwasher and he started licking up the juice (just a tiny bit) and didnt realize he was standing IN the object that he fears the most. He stayed there for awhile, then jumped down, but then kept circling it and putting his front paws up on the door. :D :D :D I was sooo happy! :D

What a great idea to help him get over his fear. That was genius!
It's amazing how these little ones come with different quirks.
No two are alike. Bud on the other hand fears nothing except large
dogs he does not know and then he will want a piece of them.
I will continue to remove his toys at night and see what happens
in a month or two.
I wish you continued success with Fletcher.

Mac is is sooo obsessive/compulsive about his toys that I have had to put them all up. If Maci even looks at them he runs and puts them on the couch and guards them. He looks at his toy, then looks at me, looks at his toy then looks at Maci, then back at me....& on & on & on it goes...Its like he trying to tell me something because he has like a look of like URGECY in his eyes then If we are up He will walk behind us and bump them on our legs. If we sit and dont continually throw them for him he MOANS in despair until we do...We notice it more at night because we are all winding down and its when we do more lounging..I only bring toys out for awhile to play and then they get put back in the toy box...It is too distressing on him AND us to leave them out!...It's like he gets possessed by them...

OMG that's Buddy! I can't help but wonder why?
I am glad you also pick the toy's up at night this makes me feel better
also. He loves that rubber clown, which he hit's me in the back of my
legs while I walk also, more than food! It's only been two nights that
I have picked up the toys but I really think he's more relaxed now.
Why he thought it was his job to guard them at night is way beyond
me. I felt so bad taking away his baby but if it makes him act like
a dog rather than an obsessed crazed one I'll do what I have to.
