Just FYI Just FYI about the DNA kits available on AKC's website - those are for DNA profiling ONLY (for the frequently used Sires program)> Akc just runs the DNA and stores it, they don't do anything with it unless there is an audit or complaint. Here is the info from the AKC for the Customer DNA Complaint program: Effective July 1, 2002: Any AKC customer who questions the recorded parentage of a dog or litter may submit a complaint in writing to the AKC requesting DNA testing. The complaint must be accompanied by a deposit of $500.00. If the allegation is sustained the deposit is returned. If the allegation is not sustained, the deposit is forfeited and becomes the property of The American Kennel Club. In cases where parentage is shown to be incorrect, AKC will work with customers to correct the registrations of dogs and litters when possible. The responsible parties will be billed for the DNA processing costs and registration correction fees. Registration services will be placed on hold until payment is made. When corrections cannot be made, the necessary registrations will be converted to Conditional Registration. The AKC disciplinary procedures will apply to exclusions discovered as a result of this policy |

Oh gosh, she is adorable! She does look a bit like a chihuahau, but who knows! Either way, she is absolutely adorable! It is amazing how quickly these little furry creatures can become a member of the family! |

You say you have papers, but are they with the AKC? Since the AKC has suspended many breeders, they have turned to alternative registries, and I believe the other registries are worthless. All the breeder has to do is say that the breeding dogs are purebred, no proof required. The dog's parents could have looked like yorkies, and still have been mixed; the offspring is often different looking from the parents when this happens. Your cousin's description of the parent's hair, "father had long silky type haired and the mother had a more of a smooth hair," is confusing, but it sounds like the mother might also have short hair, and this could be the Chihuahua mix. Yorkies should have long, silky, smooth hair. Chihuahua's don't have the ability to grow long hair like yorkies, and although many yorkie owners keep the coats short, this is done by haircuts, not the inability to grow long hair. |

I don't even think he knows what he's talking about. I believe the the hair on both dogs was short because they were cut. The explanation given was that from the breeder. Actually, the mother and father are her pets and they had a litter. The papers are AKC. I didn't send them off yet because I was not sure , because of the look. She was a gift so I don't know all of the story just what he told me, and from what I gathered over the phone from the breeder. I decided to keep her because she already stole my heart. I was just concerned about people breeding these dogs and falsifying information for money. |

Besides her ears she looks all yorkie to me. I think she'll grow into her ears. I'd ask the vet if I were you. don't be embarrassed! Nothing is embarrassing about gaining knowledge! :) She is absolutely adorable! |

1 Attachment(s) She looks so sweet! (but definitely looks like a "Chorkie" to me). Our boy once had bigger ears, but his hair was thicker at 8 weeks: |

he is absolutely a cutie. he does look that he's crossed with chi., from the hair, ear and nose. but since he's still a young puppy, its really hard to tell unless DNA testing is performed. does he shed at all? since yorkies don't shed and chihuahuas do, I would be more suspicious if he does shed on a regular basis! |

100% yorkie.:aimeeyork I have had one come out of my litters that look just like her and I believe you can see her on my page! I never had the mother YORKIE around any male besides my male yorkie while she was in heat and you can see how she turned out. Tori will be 2 yrs this year and grew into her hair. Congrats! any questions feel free to pm if you have questions. |

Have you asked your vet what they thought? I would guess there is a little Chi in there somewhere. |
|
 I think I see a little Chi too. |
|
I took her to the vet today and the vet said she looks as if she is part chi, but because she is so young it is hard to tell. She said her coloring is that of a yorkie and her coat and face looks chi. She also said that she may be fully yorkie, but just not within yorkie standards. (sometimes that can happen in litters)Her demeanor was neither that of a yorkie or chi. The best bet is to do a DNA test. Wow. I decided to name her Diva. She was the Belle of the ball today. Everyone commented on her and her loving personality. Especially when she would roll over to have her tummy rubbed. We went shopping and I brought her all sorts of things. I don't know who was happier me or her. She received the attention while I smiled happily and shopped. Yes I am in love. |

So did the vet say they'd do a DNA? How much does it cost? I'm asking because I didn't think it cost that much. Little Diva is the love of your life...there is no denying that. She is cute as a button...I'm going to say that she is 100% yorkie...and 100% adorable. |
|
The DNA test cost $200.00. I told them to let me think about it and I'll let them know on the next visit in 3 weeks. The ironic part is, now I'm starting to see pictures of 100% AKC registered yorkies that look like her. I saw a picture of a litter and all of the puppies had a typical yorkie look( at least the one people are use to) and it had one male puppy that looked just like her. I saw about 4 different puppies all together from different litters with her look. |
|
I guess time will tell if you decide against the DNA...as she grows, you'll get a better idea. They change so much from what they looked like as puppies when they are older. Just enjoy the puppy stage as it really doesn't last long. |

She is so cute and my guess is that you will love her no matter what! She is a lucky little girl to have you for a mom!!:) |

Couldn't help it, i had to know for sure. i got the DNA test. She is over 75% Yorkie and 10-19% Chihuahua. |
|
But she is 100% yours right and you love her right? She certainly is a doll baby!!!! I would definately go back to breeder with the results and if they are AKC the pups from this litter I would report it to them! Whatever the outcome she is very blessed to have you for her mommy!!!! |
|
Wow, well, she's mostly Yorkie - no wonder there were so many different posts as to what she actually was. I agree, you should go back to the breeder and make sure they know you did not get what you paid for, and I would also call the AKC and find out if there is anything you can do. From what I understand, the DNA test they do is to verify that the Sire and Dam recorded on the litter application are actually the Sire and Dam of the puppy. They just use markers from the parents' DNA and do not do a test to determine the "breed" of the dog. Based on your test results, it is entirely possible that the parents recorded on the application are the actual parents, but that one of the parents is 1/2 chi. So, I'd jsut call and see what you can do. |
