Please say a prayer for my Bently
 
Bently, who is almost 1, started making "goose sounds" this weekend and I'm afraid he has a collapsed trachea. He only did it twice all weekend. Once when he was running down a hallway to play with our cat, the other time just before I fed him.

Please say a prayer for him that he will be ok and I won't be losing him... I don't know what I'd do if something happened to him. He is my baby and I love him more than life itself.

If it is a collapsed trachea and is diagnosed early enough what can be do to help him?

He has an appt at his vet next Sat. for his 1 year checkup.

Sometimes they do a "reverse sneezing" sound. Maybe that's all it is...but it's always a good idea for a vet to check. Try not to worry:)

I agree,sounds like reverse sneezing but its good to get him checked. He will be ok...Nice to hear how much love you have for him:):)

The reverse sneezing was my first thought too. Praying that is what it is. Please let us know what the vet says after his appointment next week.

Sorry to hear about Bentley. There's nothing worst then the feeling of helplessness when your little guy is sick. My heart is with you both. If he starts doing it more, I think I would call the vet and see if they can move his appointment up. You're both in our prayers.

Ziggy did that last summer 5 days after a trip to the groomers. Turned out he had kennel cough, probably from exposure to a sick dog there. He recovered very quickly.

My five year old Yorkie, Prince, was diagnosed with having a collapsed trachea almost a month ago. We had gone to a park...he was fine, came home and he had a bath...he was fine, but during the night, my husband and I heard him making a wheezing sound while he was sleeping. This happened while he was trying to inhale. He sounded as if he was having a bad asthma attack. We were at the vet as soon as they opened, had xrays taken, and it was confirmed. Collapsed trachea can only be confirmed with xrays. If, hopefully not, but if Bently has it, there is a surgery that can be done, but it is not 100% effective. Prince was on meds for 12 days. He's off the meds now but we have to watch his excitement level. Sometimes when he barks, it soundsl like he's having difficulty. I pray that your little guy does not have this. Make sure you only use a harness. (Prince has n e v e r used a collar).
Reverse sneezing does not always mean collapsed trachea. I have posted a couple of sites about CT and one member said her dog lived a long, happy life with it.
I hope you have only good news at the vet. Please keep us posted.

Hopefully it is just a little cough or reverse sneeze. One is young for CT so hopefully it's not that. I have had 2 yorkies with mild CT and both lived full lives and passed on at ages 12 and almost 12 from unrelated causes. Please keep us posted.

This definitely sounds like reverse sneezing...... Seymour and Shelby do this when they get overly excited, too. It is wise to check it out with your vet (like we did). Let us know what you find out! & Good Luck!

Maggie gets this alot when she gets overly excited. I was really concerned at first and started watching her. She really only does when they rough house and when we come home after being away for a few hours. Better safe than sorry, always good to ask the vet. Sending good thoughts that all is okay.

........... I forgot to add, when Shelby or Seymour start to "reverse sneeze" I hold them and try to calm them. Quietly petting and talking to them. It works well. Matter of fact, now when it happens they actually come to me to be held. :hearts6:

Marley who is a year old did the reverse sneezing last week. It started in the middle of the night. I thought he was choking. I took him into the emergency vet and she said it was reverse sneezing. It sure doesn't sound like a sneeze. She said it could be caused by allergies. She has also seen raw hide bones from Thailand that have a coating on them that can cause this reaction. I had just bought him a new raw hide bone from Walmart the day before. He did the sneezing for several days and now it has stopped. I know how you feel. I was so scared I was going to lose him. I hope yours is better soon.

I am sorry to hear that this is happening. It is quite confusing when things happen and we cannot understand what exactly it is. I think the vet is a great idea.

John, it could be reverse sneezing - do you know about RS? If it's going to show up, it often shows up in "adolescence". I will keep your baby in my thoughts and be watching for an update.

One night a couple of weeks ago, Harley did this several times throughout the night. I talked to the vet and he said that if it didn't go away in two days to bring him in, and that I could give him some benedryl. Thankfully we only had to go through that horrible sound for one night! I really think it had alot to do with it had been a nice weekend and he got to get out and really play for the first time in a while, so he might have been having a little allergy trouble. I had read about reverse sneezing and the sound, but until you hear it you can't possibly imagine how much your little one can sound like a goose honking. Hopefully if it has only happened a couple of times you don't have anything to worry about.

Thanks for all your prayer's for Bently.

So far this week he hasn't did the "goose cough" so I'm hoping it is just reverse sneezing.... I'm still planning on getting an xray done during his 1 year old vet visit just to make sure.

They are just so little and fragile I can't help but worry about what could happen to him, since they can't come right out and tell us they are hurting and where it hurts.

We had a dog that had asthma and it sounds like what you're describing. They put him on prednisone during his bad episodes. He lived a long life!! Hopefully it's nothing... My prayers and thoughts are with you and Bentley:aimeeyork

Prayer's coming for Bently that's it's only RS.
Buddy does it when he get's overly excited. It scares the
death out of me. I never had the vet check it because it
only happens once in a while and I know other's have experienced
it as well. I have found that as he got older, he's 5now, it
started to happen. I stroke his throat and talk to him gently
and in a minute or two it goes away. It must be terrifying to them.
I also hold my breath for fear he won't get's his back.

I took my little man in to the vet for a blood workup and xray of his trachea. Trachea looks ok, liver on xray looks great. One of the blood test, not sure which one was at 28 and normal is up to 25 so they will be doing a fasting blood and urine test next Friday.

But all in all he's ok..

I'm glad to hear that Bentley is doing better. My girl Calleigh had that during the summer months a couple of times. My vet told me it was some type of spasm in her diaphram. She hasn't had the problem all winter. It seemed to be when she got excited. It did sound like she was choking. I picked her up and patted her back. She stopped on her own. It was very frightening. I'm glad you're seeing the vet about it. I thought of collapsed trachea also. I'm glad to hear it's not that. Prayers are still coming your way.
