New yorkie mother. Any advice?
 
Hi! I just got my first yorkie, Tobie, a little over 2 weeks ago. He will be 12 weeks on Tuesday and I was wondering if anyone has any advice for me? I have had dogs all my life but this is my first puppy in a long time. I am 27 years old and I have had my rat terrier since I was 12 and my cocker since I was 16 so I feel like I have so many questions. Any advice for my first yorkie baby is appreciated :)

Welcome to Yorkie talk and congrats on your new puppy! IT is VERY important to watch for low blood sugar when he is young- make sure his gums are always pink and if they are white/grey make sure to get some honey or corn syrup on his gums as soon as you can!

Do you still have your Rat Terrier? Love that breed. Had my Sadie Mae Ann Louise (she was Texan-had to have multiple names:rolleyes:) for 16 years. What a little pistol she was. If you do, just be careful that the puppy doesn't bully the older dog. Puppies have soooo much energy and although your Rattie may enjoy playing, puppies can get very pushy. So just be sure to supervise and not let Tobie push it too far.

Please post pictures when you can. Would love to see both your Tobie and your Rattie.

Here's a not so happy Sadie, trying to figure out how to get this stupid hat off and get to the cake without Mom grabbing her and putting the hat back on! :p

Thanks for all the responses :) That picture is adorable! She looks like she was a little bit smaller than my Rattie baby. I do still have her... almost lost her about a month ago. She had to have emergency surgery but she is doing really well now. She has been doing pretty good with Tobie... she plays with him when she is in the mood and lets him know when she's not (although he doesn't always listen). I let her let him know to stop my growling but always keep my eye on them.
OH! the CUTEST thing happened the other day and I didn't have my camera... grrr... lol. They were both asleep on opposite sides of the couch when Tobie woke up and saw her. He got up, walked to the other end of the couch and laid down right infront of her (facing her) and just stared at her. lol. That would have been the cutest picture! I am going to try to get some pics of them together but that is a task... it's hard to get them to stay still long enough so it might have to be when they are sleeping :)

Hi there. Welcome to yorkietalk!! Finding this site is the best thing you could have done for your yorkie as well as your other dogs!!
Just a tiny hint: try searching for info before starting threads. This saves a lot of time.
