Would anyone buy a yorkie online and have it shipped to them? This just seems so crazy to me. Would you do it? Have you done it? Why or why not? Have a good day :) |
do you mean without actually meeting the dog first? I bought Layla without meeting her or the breeder- it was just too far away. Through pictures I picked which one I wanted out of a litter of 3 females and picked her up when she was 12 weeks. I would never personally have my pup shipped- Layla was SO tiny when i picked her up- i can't imagine putting that small of an animal in cargo and not having them come out traumatized- i find it hard to beleive the dog you put in the plane is the same dog that comes out (emotionally) |
sure!!! i was a bit skeptical myself when getting my yorkie but i live in nyc and all i could find were puppies that came from puppy mills unfortunately :(.....then i got in contact with a very reputable breeder that was in Missouri and Donnie came home in about 3 weeks!!!! he is super healthy and very lovable! he came with the AKC registrations and everthing....also neutered which was, in my point of view, very responsible of the breeder. I wish i could post some pics of Donnie on this site but i can't seem to find how to do it!!!! it frustrates me! but yes....crazy but possible!!!! |
I would only do it if I really knew the breeder. It is best to see the environment the pup is coming from. When you buy online you could unknowingly be supporting a byb or a puppymill. Alot of times when people have problems on here with a breeder its because they have bought it online |
Just got our puppy last weekend from Missouri. I breeder here on YT,( with references here on YT as well) had pups available. We flew out and picked him up and flew him back with us in the cabin on Air Tran. He was worth the flight because we knew he was coming from a qualified caring breeder. Having a healthy baby is worth everything. |
I found Peanut online and it was the best thing I ever did. I picked him out of a picture of him and his three brothers at about six weeks old. I did check out the breeders references and we keep in touch via email until he flew out of Arkansas at 13 weeks. She called me to let me know he was on the plane and I tracked the flight and picked him up at the airport. He was even eating on the drive home and has been a blessing since. I still keep in touch with his breeder, if I would ever get another yorkie she would be the first I would call. |
Yes i have with very good results ;) I have bought 5 yorkies at different times from a very reputable breeder in OK but i did not know that the first time buying they were flew in with no problems and were so happy and playful by the time we got home from the airport they seem to have always been with me. I had 2 Biewers yorkies flew in from Germany in Jan 09 and they were absolutley perfect Micah was 1 of them. but there are a lot that has not been so lucky. I was well aquainted with the breeder in Germany before buying. Betty & Micah my love:aimeeyork |
I have bought and shipped w/no problems. You build a realtionship over the course of wating for your puppy to be ready or even bred. I have dropped off for a friend a couple of times at my Airport ( it was biger ) and she made sure everything was PERFECT and I had to freeze the water so the puppy could lick it while in flight so it would not spill out. She would call to make sure I had froze it...lol So, a good breeder makes all the difference. Airlines makes me nervouse if I have family or pets on them. Angie |
i have bought andd sold both over the internet and shipped. never a problem. the key is getting to know your seller or buyer. there are other ways besides cargo to ship a pup. I sometimes usse an airline flight attendant to hand carry my pupss in cabin. |
I got trixie on line. She was picked by the breether, and delivered to me by the breether herself. She is a very healthy 3 pound yorkie now. No health problems. In my opinion, everytime you buy a pet, being on line or in person, you are taking some kind of risk. |
I got Dolly w/o meeting her breeder or parents. but her breeder is a well-known show breeder that many people on here have had positive experiences with. I would suggest that you do some research on the breeder you are considering, asking for references etc. before purchasing one. |
I'm so glad so many of you are recommending seeing the breeder in person. That's the only way you can be sure of kennel conditions. I do want to caution that many people on YT have recommended a breeder even though they never met the breeder themselves, and have only have had their puppy a few months. I'm not sure what they are recommending since they can't even be sure they got a healthy puppy. So be careful with those recommendations. I would probably be inclined to fly there and have the puppy fly back with me, but I wouldn't just "ship" the puppy, it seems crazy to me too. |
My personal preference is to visit the breeder in person and see the puppy and it's parents. I would never have a puppy shipped. I like to see for myself the conditions where the puppy is being raised, and also meeting the breeder in person. The YTCA recommends so many breeders in so many states, that it's hard to believe a buyer couldn't find a reputable breeder within driving distance. |

Call me crazy. I've bought both of my Yorkie's online and had them shipped to me. My first Yorkie has also flown overseas and back when we had moved out of the country. |
I bought my yorkie online through petfinder. but I went and picked him up over in Ohio (I'm in Michigan). I've thought about buying one online and having him/her shipped, but I don't know if I could personally buy a dog without seeing how our personalities react to each other. I don't see a problem with it though if you're comfortable with it. :) |
the only puppy i have that i have met the breeder in person, saw the parents and saw the living conditions was miss buffey...i flew in over the holiday and picked her up and flew her back with me bentley i had shipped to me and although i talk to the breeder via email, i have never met her gino i picked up at the airport and met the breeder in person but did not visit their home...he flew back in the cabin with me when i got bree, i met the breeder in person and we met halfway all of my kids are wonderful and i could not have asked for better breeders or better kids...it is all about due diligence and doing your homework :) there ARE reputable breeders out there but sadly, there are a lot more dishonest breeders out there |

I bought my pup from a picture on-line and had him flown here and I would never do it again. My puppy was so traumatized when he got here and did not look anything like the picture. Not to mention we found out he came from a horrible puppy mill. I'm sure there are lots of sucess stories but mine was a nightmare. |
My personal opinion is not to take the chance of shipping and doing any online perchases with a live animal. I am a firm believer to meet the breeder and the parent of the pups. Also seeing what type of health gauretee the pups come with and vaccinations., and deworming. AND to make certain the pups have had at least one vet checked . If I had found someone who is a reputable breeder possible from YT , I'f fly out to the state myself and make the effort to see the babies and talk in detailed length to the breeder. ANd find out everything I needed to know about the pup. Hoping that there wold still beable to remain in contact with the breeder after bringing hom the new puppy. I prefer finding a reputable in my area that is willing to go theough the extra steps in selling healthy puppies and not just to anybody. |
I bought Leia on line and had her shipped to me. With the help of YT and references and sharing pictures, talking to the owner, and so on. I am very pleased. There's always risk, however if you do as much homework as you can, the risk can be minimized. |
No way would I trust the airlines with my furbaby. If I could not go pick my baby up myself, I would look for a more local breeder. Too many stories of animals dying in the cargo hold. Not to mention it is dark, noisy, too hot or too cold etc. NO WAY! |

I agree with you. I would NEVER EVER buy a dog online without at least visiting the dog first. When I worked at the vets, we had a few clients whom were buying their dogs online, and would bring them to our vet, and they were sooooo sick, it was sad. I would really tell anyone who is looking to buy online that you should check out the pup first..... |
I have not had any problems buying from a reputable YTCA breeder or a STCA breeder. I bought my first Skye champion as a puppy from New Hampshire, site unseen and flew him out to Az. |
I live in CT, bought Conner from a picture online, and he came from OK. He took a direct flight from Dallas to CT. When he arrived, he was so spunky, we just couldn't believe he was so perfect. Although all is well with Conner (he is going to be 3 years old this month), I don't know that I would have a puppy shipped again. He was so tiny, but now is a robust 12 pounds. I was very lucky, as I did not investigate the breeder. |
I once shipped a 12-week-old Persian kitten from California to Colorado, and that poor little thing was so traumatized that I swore never to ship an animal again. When I moved to South Africa and the airline refused to allow me to have my little Peke in the cabin with me, I found her a new home with a wonderful new mama rather than subject her to 30 hours in the belly of the plane. She was old and the vet thought it would be too much for her. I know people ship animals all the time, but I just could not do it again. My babies either stay home with a house sitter or they come with me. Now that we have four, however, if we bring them along it will have to be a car trip! Puddin' rides well...no carsickness, no trembling, no problems. She is happy in her puppy purse (even takes naps in it at home) and when she gets bigger, I'll see about getting her a car seat or harness. The others have to travel in kennels as they moan and jump about in the car otherwise. But except in the most urgent circumstances, I do not see myself being a party to shipping an animal ever again. |
I just want to say that there are alot of ways to make sure that your dealing with a reputable person, If you buy from a person that has put energy into the breed and built a good reputation, that happens to be out of state and has puppies available on a website then there should be no worries. However I wouldn't google cute yorkies for sale click on some random site and pick out a puppy. Do your background work, you are investing in your breeder as much as you are the puppy it's self. I found all 3 of my yorkies on the internet, but I spent weeks researching and getting to know the breeders that I bought them from. I didn't ship but I gave money for two of my babies before I had seen them in person. |
