sammy12 Hi everyone We have an adorable rescued yorkie called Bella. According to the vets she is about two and a half. They would not tell us all the abuse Bella suffered but I do no she had one litter and was pregnant with another when she was rescued. The vet removed the babies and gave Bella a hysterectomy. She has (in the past year) never been anything of a problem and gets on well with our other dog and three cats. We all love her very very much but she is just sooo affectionate that it is making her a bit of a problem. She is not satisfied with being on your lap or sitting with you but must be stroked and tickled all the time or she gets down and goes to someone else. Visitors have the same treatment and not all of them like it. We persistently tell her no but although she will wince after about 2 seconds she tries again. This doesn't sound a problem but it is (not that I would ever send her away) Please help Maureen Glover |
Hello and welcome to YorkieTalk! Bless you for being a rescue parent. :) Sorry that I do not have any advice about a furbaby being too affectionate. (My furbaby is a little bit opposite of this.) Hopefully someone on YT can help you with this. It does sound like your furbaby is a sweetie. |
Thank you for being a rescue mom....It takes time. I have a Rescue and he is so happy to have a home and a family. Bella will settle down after a few weeks. You do need to have rules and stick with them even if you must repeat them. I would not remove her to another room when you have friends over but tell her no and put her on the floor. I had to do this with mine and he finally understands. Remember..REPEAT REPEAT. And dont reward until she obeys... |
too much love Thank you We have had her for 9 months now and she has not changed. Do you think the abuse she has suffered has made her this affectionate - I thought it would have made her the opposite but she just thinks everyone loves her. Maureen and Bella |
I think that maybe where she was, she was ignored and not loved. Now she is trying to make up for all the neglect she has endured! The more secure she becomes in her new environment, the less she will have a need to be "affectionate." I know you said you have had her for nine months, hopefully the more she knows you are not going anywhere, and that she is safe forever, her "affectionate" behavior will even out. :) |
