What do you think? Maddie has never had so much as a mat on her anywhere and then I was gone for 3 days and left her with my daughter and she was a matted mess when I came home. I felt so bad and cut a lot of them because I didn't want to hurt her trying to undo them. I thought it must have been from playing with the other puppies and all, but she's done that all her life and never had a mat. Then, after getting all the mats out, I found more the next day! I was totally clueless as to why she would suddenly get mats so easily and today I was trying to figure it out when I remembered I'd used the CC System on her the last time I bathed her. Is it possible that product is making her fur so soft that it mats easily? I just thought I'd see what you all thought about it. I love it and love the smell, but think I'll try the old stuff next time I bathe her just to see if she continues to mat! Another thing I thought of...she's been on medication for inflammatory bowel disease for over a month now and I'm just now starting to wean her off of it. Maybe that could affect her coat? So what do you think? |
The medication definitely could affect her coat. Have you been brushing a lot since you got back? And good idea to try to use the old stuff next bath to see if it is the CC System causing it. |
Thanks FastEddie...yes...I've been brushing her a few times a day and those mats just keep popping up! I have left Maddie with my daughter before for a few days time and have never come home to her being matted before. I'm thinking it is either the CC System products or the medication, but I'm thinking if it is the meds, it seems this problem would have started sooner since she's been on it so long. I sure hope I get this figured out. I've always considered myself lucky because her coat has always been so easy to care for...up until now! |
It can happen once in a while. Gotta be pretty dedicated to that brushing, or just shave it all over like we do Yoda (at least for summertime). ;) You'll figure it out soon! |
She's BEAUTIFUL !! WOW she reminds me of my Chanel - her coat might be cottony and if the matts are too bad - they can be painful. IF I were you I would cut her all the way down and start again ...if you can get them out easily - Try a really good bath - great conditioner - then Ice on Ice spray every day - Chanel knots up easily and it's an ongoing process to keep her matt free - you can do it ! ....She really has beautiful coloring ! |
I don't know if this applies, but I know that my maltese when they are about 8-10 months old, go through some coat changes and matt terribly for about a month. I don't know if it is the same for yorkies. |
