Barking... Help! I don't know why Bella barks. She doesn't really bark when someone knocks on the door or when she sees people out the window. She barks when I'm on the phone, when my roommate walks into my room. She has a play pen in my room and she barks (rather vicious sounding) when my roommate puts her back in it. I don't know what to do and it's getting progressively worse as time goes on. I'm willing to pay for an in house trainer if anyone has suggestions. I live in central Orange County, CA. Any help is appreciated! :) |
These vocal ones can be a challenge sometimes. My Gracie Ruth has an opinion about everything and she'll let you know it. :p Don't know where she gets that from...must be her Daddy. Try ignoring her when she barks. Only give her attention when she's quiet. If you're on the phone, put her in another room, tell her Quiet and close the door. When she stops barking then she can come out and get a treat. If your roommate is putting her in her play pen, tell her Quiet and hold her until she stops, no petting or attention, then put her in and give her a treat. Give the command, turn your back on her when she barks and ignore her until she's quiet and reward with a treat. It'll take a little time at first, but if you are consistent she'll start to figure it out. |
