Could this really be???? Ok so we picked up Bruiser on Monday and got home around 3. He has not had an accident at all in the house. He has done so great. We are on a schedule though. He eats and drinks at 7am, 1pm, 4pm, and 8 pm. After each, within 10, 15 min we take him out and he does his biz. Thats it. I come home at 11am to let him out to pee. But thats it. Is it really this easy? Ive never had a dog of my own. This is my first. I was expecting much worse as far as pt goes. What do you think? Did we get lucky or are we just good parents with a good dog? BTW breeder said Bruiser had never been outside b4. |
Could be either. Curly was GREAT the first couple weeks, no accidents, always straight to the wee pads. Then, one day, BAM! She crapped in every room we have, peed on my comforter, and continues to do so while looking me dead in the eye. I hope yours sticks to it though, that would rock! |
Wow, that's great, hope he keeps up the good work. I have to agree that SpiceE set me up doing really good, but doing puppy pad training, then he started peeing all over the place. I do have to admit, I did not have a schedule, thought I didn't need one :) But, he is doing much better now, I just started taking him out more. |
Wow, have you been blessed. You are one lucky mom. My girls will do great for a couple of days, then look out. There are days that I realize walking through a dark room could be hazardous to your health.:rolleyes: |

Riot came home Monday as well! I'm in the same boat, he's done fairly well although a few accidents, but I am just waiting until he starts testing his boundaries or decides he no longer wants to go when/where he's supposed to. Best of luck! |
I sure hope your little one continues on this good path. You may be very lucky and had a great breeder. The breeder I got Abby from did NO training whatsoever:( and she was 12 weeks old when I got her. |

My male Yorkie housebroke very easily. He was completely housebroken within a few weeks and we never had accidents until he developed bladder cancer 13 years later. After he passed on that's when I discovered YT. I enjoyed looking at everyones babies and hearing their stories. It helped me to heal and move on. I thought it was strange that most people would say that Yorkies are very hard to housebreak but stick to it and eventually they catch on. I'm thinking what are they talking about? This past July I brought home little 10 week old Piper. She was very hard to housebreak. She would go outside but then she would go again about 20 minutes later inside. She was good with poop because I would always bring her out after eating but the pee FORGET IT. She just would pee whenever she had the urge. The vet said she had an immature bladder and she didn't understand that she could hold her urine. It wasn't until she was 6 months old until she FINALY started to go days with no mistakes. She is 9 months old now and she still doesn't really ask to go out but I've learn to read her body language and accidents are few. |

How lucky! I'm getting my baby next week friday. I'm sooo excited. I hope shes going to be easy but I have a gut feeling shes going to be hard to house train. I heard that if you give them a treat or praise them after they potty at the right area they will soon learn where to potty...... so I guess you can give that a try and let me know if it works! |
Good for you and I hope he continues!! Its great that you have him on schedule. If you stay consistent he should continue to do good. However be prepared for set backs. Tucker was pee pad trained and was started outside when I got him at 7 weeks. I continued to pee pad train him because of him being so little and that we've had snow on the ground since halloween. After several weeks he started to go everywhere but the pee pad so I have retrained him to go outside and at 5 months old, he is still having 1 accident in the house and its usually poo and having a houseful of kids under the age of 11, one of them usually steps in it and its not pretty. We have started confining him again to only 2 rooms of the house and we are still taking him out every hour that he is awake. He has been the hardest puppy I have ever had to train. Im sorry I took over your post and turned it into my vent.. :( Congrats on the new puppy and I hope he continues to do well. :) |
