PUPPY BROKERS!!!! LAMBRIAR and HUNT I was wondering why no one ever discusses puppy brokers in the PUPPY MILL discussions. It seems that many of these pet stores either LIE or just don't really understand. These pet stores swear up and down they do not purchase from Puppy Mills, and in fact many of them do not. Apparently there are TWO major Puppy Brokers Lambriar and HUNT. These are the puppy "transporters". These brokers DO buy from the puppy mills. And then sometimes these little puppies, ripped from there mommies way too young, spend days sometimes weeks in large trucks being transported across the country! IT IS SICKENING! I bought my baby 3 years ago. After he got sick quickly, I began to do alot of research, including calling the National Humane Society and learned just how this works. I tracked down my "breeder" who told me he sold the puppy to Lambriar for $400. Well I paid $2000 because there are so many middle men in the process. While it is critical to continue raising awareness about puppy mills, it is also imperative to expose this part of the business linking the puppy mills to the pet stores. In addition, the government allows certain Puppy breeders to be USDA approved. What I learned is these "backyard breeders" are perhaps one step above the "traditional puppy mills. This is a huge business!!! Unfortunately, I learned the hard way. There is a lemon law in most states which says you can get your money back from the Pet store and you can keep the dog! I didn't know that, and there was no way I was giving Nobu back. Our vet bills have been astronomical, but the love I have for him makes it all worth it. I made the mistake of walking into a pet store, without an intention of purchasing a dog....BIG MISTAKE! We MUST stay our of the PET STORES all together, and the public must be educated on theses MIDDLE MEN! They too deny having ties to puppy mills! LIES!!!! |
OMG, thats horrible. I really hate the whole thing. |

Puppy brokers are the absolute lowest in my opinion. I hate puppy mills, but the truth of the matter is that some of these farms are owned by people who have really little or no contact with the outside world, and view puppies no differently than any other form of livestock. They are farmers, and they treat the dogs like farm animals. Puppy brokers on the other hand, know very much about the real world, and sell these dogs to Pet Stores and through the Internet. They know these dogs are coming from horrific backgrounds, and see no problem with being the middleman. I don't think any Pet Stores get their pets from responsible breeders, how could they, a responsible breeder doesn't "sell" her dog. A responsible breeder adopts her dog, this means that she won't sell her dog to just anyone. Pet stores on the other hand, sell their dogs to anyone who has the money to buy it. Part of being a good breeder is ensuring that all the dogs you produce go to good homes. More people seem to be aware that purchasing a dog from a Pet Store perpetuates the suffering of millions of dogs in puppy mills, but they don't seem to be as knowledgeable about purchasing a dog over the internet. Unless you actually go see the breeder's home, and see the kennel conditions, you are condoning the suffering of millions of dogs. |
I live in Lancaster County PA...AMISH COUNTRY...arent they sweet, not really. I thought they were the worst with puppy mills. Dont let them fool you, they are cruel and harsh and you are right to them they are just animals and are to be treated that way. They use their religion to attract buyers and it makes me crazy. |

I spoke with one of these Amish breeders when I was first looking for another puppy. Spoke to her for about 1/2 hour just chatting. Needless to say, I was intentionally finding out how they were being raised. She said that she did not have a male right now but would in a week! A week....really? I chose to go with the breeders here on YT, because they had referrals from people right on the forum who had adopted from them before. Speaking with someone who has bought from the breeder before is worth more than words. |
I agree. This is the best I have ever seen for any info on yorkies. I would always ask here first. |
Hunte Corporation is the largest puppy broker in the US. They own Petland. Here are some articles and videos for you: Petland and Hunte Corp. Accused of Illegal Business Practices and Selling Sick Puppies | Animal Law Coalition View Investigation Report View Investigation Report |
Hunte and Lambriar We need to get this out to everyone! I believe the Puppy Stores convince people they DO NOT BUY from Breeders. In fort lauderdale, we have a very high end "teacup" boutique. She sells the dogs for $2K - $8K. I went in there years ago, and she swore up and down she would NEVER buy from a puppy mill....blah blah blah...and explained how she goes through a "REPUTABLE" broker who knows the Breeders! BULLS***!!!!!! As someone said, Reputable Breeders DO NOT sell to Brokers! I think everyone should post this on their personal pages! This makes me crazy...because the brokers are truly the one perpetuating this disgusting business!!!!! Without brokers puppy mills could not survive! |
Another article about Hunte...Lambriar has a good market share as well!!! |
Ugh! There are a couple of things I have to say here - I live in Missouri and there are countless Puppy Mills within a short drive of me. It's horrible and disgusting. There have been times I have been at the vet with one of my babies, and one of these millers came in with 6 puppies stuffed in an undersized crate - stuffed so full that the handle on the travel crate broke and the puppies dropped to the floor! It was awful! The lady didn't even blink, just pushed the crate to the side with her foot and walked up to the counter. Within seconds the entire office stank of feces. I nearly threw up in my mouth. Anyway, sorry about that rant. But, around here where I live, just about everyone sells to HUNTE. Not us, of course, but years ago my dad sold some to Hunte. They don't check out the breeders other than their licensing. They don't give breeders any incentive to do a good job.... and they certainly don't pay breeders a fair price, which is why "good" breeders won't sell to them. They want to buy Yorkie puppies for $75 to $300 each..... a good breeder can't raise a puppy for $300 - but a puppy mill can (the ones that survive, anyway). Also, I heard a while back that a semi-truck of Hunte puppies going to the east coast caught on fire, and all of the puppies died from smoke inhalation. Make you want to cry? God I hope so. DO NOT BUY FROM A PET STORE! |

I am the owner of a Puppy Mill puppy, I didn't purchase my baby directly from a Pet Store - she was rehomed to me at 3 months of age because the people who bought her had no idea that puppies required things like a crate, a harness, walks and housebreaking. It breaks my heart everytime I see something on the news or on YT boards about Puppy Mills and how the poor animals are treated. I have never owned a dog before as an adult (had one as a child, it was my Fathers dog). I am so thankful for the education, it will help me in the future when I get another dog and more importantly it helps me with SophieKate (the Puppy Mill puppy). When I found out where the people who rehomed her bought her I made my Vet aware - together with my Vet we are making sure SophieKate is happy, healthy and hopefully has no long term effects of where she was born. |
Brokers are the lowest people on earth... |

I talk to all of our new owners every now and then to check up on their Yorkies - how could someone bring a puppy in to this world and just basically throw it away? |
bump. good info for newbies need to read. |
On December 17, 2010 I bought a Yorkshire Terrier from a lady name Deborah Mace from 110 St. Rt. H Edgar Springs, Missouri 65462. I pick the puppy born August 27, 2010 at about 1:00pm in the afternoon. The puppy seemed very happy to see us hipper even. We were so excited to see her (My two daughters 5 and 10, my mom Cathy and me Debbie) we did not put her down to walk even. I gave Deborah Mace $375 cash for her puppy which she told me how lucky I was to get and that she has had a lot of call on her. Someone else was going to take her but they had changed there minds, (probably because of her leg which she told me nothing of ) I was tickled I have been looking awhile for my five year old daughter for Christmas that’s what she wanted a little girl Yorky. We have a little boy Yorkie and just Love him so much I thought it was a good time to have one more. I have drove 2 ½ hours to pick her up so we thought lets stop and buy the new puppy some food and toys on the way home so I put the little girl down and notice a limp on her back leg so I rubed her down to see if she showed any pain and she didn’t . Got back in the car about 10 min later and she had a little green diaria on the floor I clean up not thinking much yet, maybe just nerves from the long car ride. We got home and introduced her to our other dog Max, she was happy and played a little manly just wanted to be held. I tried to feed her puppy food and fresh water but no interest. Still not thinking something wrong just nerves and happy just being held by my family. I tried to call Deborah Mace That evening to ask about the limp if maybe she fell under Deborah’s care or what happened she never told or called me back yet. I had put her in a small kennel that we use to use for Max to help with potty training and a nice soft bed. My daughter wanted to sleep right next to her so I made up a bed on the floor and she loved that her Christmas puppy right next to her she was on cloud 9. Well that evening I slept on the couch next to them just in case she needed out. About 3:00 in the morning I awoke to a smell of diaria so got up cleaned up with new bedding and laid back down about 4:30 a woke from her throwing up mucus clear, now I am getting nevus, so tried to give her water and she wanted nothing to do with eating or drinking and her eyes looked sick. I tried to get her to eat some plain rice but not interested. That morning I had to go to work my mom came over to watch the kids and the new puppy and she said I will call the vet and get her in this morning Saturday December 18, 2010. Well the vet could not believe how malnutrition she looked he ran a Fecal Smear and determed she has Guardia Infection, Patella Lunation, thin underweight body sore 2/4 .My vet said due to cost and pre-existing condition I need to give back to breeder. At that point try to contact Deborah Mace at the vet office he would of like to speak to her but she is not returning call. Deborah had told us this puppy was going to be about 4 pound full grown so she was small, her hair was fluffy and could not see how thin she actually was. I found out later that these Breeders give something to the puppies to make them hipper so I am assuming that’s what she did, instead of worrying about her health and needing nutrition to save this puppy, she was just making her appearance look good so I would buy her, that’s cruel. So on my way home from work I stop and bought puppy milk, Anti Diarrhea Liquid and High Calorie Booster. In the mean time my mom was feeding her water with an eye dropper and she would not even open her mouth we had to force down the side of her little mouth. We force feed her every ½ hour switching back in forth water and milk with meds in and booster. I had emailed Deborah Mace about what was going on and told her I wanted my money back or I would contact who I need to and she just called to tell me that she told me about her leg and that this puppy was healthy (that’s what I was told she was going to say I guess these Breeder do this often) I told her I had a vet bill to prove other and that we never talked about her leg. And I would not of drove 2 1/2 hours for a puppy with Patella Luxation, Deborah just hung up on me, that told me what kind of person she was not even caring that her puppy she just sold me was very sick and being feed with a eye dropper, I have not herd from her since. So getting back to Ruby that’s what Lea named her just like her favorite cartoon Max & Ruby. She was keeping liquids down for a little bit, put some would come right back up. I got a little more stool and a little urine and that made me think well this just might be helping until late that night she stood up to vomit again and just fell over hard, I had to hold her up just to vomit. That was it for me I was feeling like I was doing more harm so I decided to let her sleep and just watch her saying to myself maybe I got enough in her and she will feel better the next day. I woke up at 3:00 in the morning and she had passed. So when my Girls awoke the next day I had to tell them that her Christmas present was gone. I can not believe someone could hand over a little un-nourished puppy to a little girl that she would have for maybe 38 hours. Plus the Infection could be contagious so I had to keep her away from her and my family as much as I could. Had to bleach everything in my house thinking she could have gave this to my family and Max even. What would I have done if something would happen to him, I can not even believe someone would do this to me emotionally I am a mess it’s hard for me even to write this letter with out breaking down. But I need to share my story so we can stop people like her. After looking on the web and reading other stories This needs to stop puppies do not deserve to be treated like this and I should of did my home work first not after so maybe my story will stop this from happening to you. Thanks, Debbie Moss 12-21-2010 The Department Of Agriculture got back to me after my claim and said the puppy was sent to Florida at 8 weeks old and did not sell so was sent back to the breeder and sold to me 3 days later. Can you imagine what this poor puppy went threw, makes me sick. |

What a horribly devastating story!! I'm soooo sorry this happened to you and your little girl! Thank you for sharing, these people must be stopped....its absolutely sickening :( |
Dwayne Hurliman is right up there with Hunt and Lambriar. He has changed his name to Spectacular Yorkies. He has the same Lady(Tatiana) doing his website as a few other Yorkie and Biewer breeders I have ran across. He draws people in by the beautiful website all the while operating as a puppy mill. Tati should be ashamed for contributing to the sale of these poor dogs by making this website for Hurliman. Heres a video the News reported of his puppymill. The video is disgusting. I have found where he sells to pets stores and sells them at auctions. Beware of Spectacular Yorkies. |
So sad, so very sad. |

I agree..... When I took Remy into my vet for her first "check-up" he told stories about "back yard breeders" who really were selling puppy mill puppies. I guess if you want a pet and don't want to purchase from a petstore you go to a local person who breeds puppies you think you can trust them. He said they would have a female and male and say it is the parents... but the puppies were often in very bad health and he has seen several die. I guess with the media negative on puppy mills they are trying other ways to sell the puppies. |
I'm so sorry for you and your family and that poor puppy. My little one has been sick since we picked her up on 12/28. I have just about $700 in vet bills to date and still counting. I was lucky in that the lady she originated from is issuing a full refund back on her to pay for the $$ already spent on vet bills as well as her continuing vet bills. We are just waiting for an agreement to be drawn up. I feel so badly for your and your children. PLEASE INVESTIGATE should you decide to buy another. Adoption is another alternative. You can try Pet adoption: Want a dog or cat? Adopt a pet on Petfinder and look for a Yorkie through rescue. I would also go for a bigger yorkie since your children are young. I know when we got our first Yorkie, we asked for the biggest in the litter. Our boys were young. Our Newman as an adult was a sturdy 12 lbs. full grown and brough my boys and our family so much joy. We had him 11 years before losing him to cancer. The upside about adoption through rescue is you know what you are getting. The dog or pup is already vetted and they won't lie to you about conditions or temperment etc. Plus they are spay or neutered already if old enough and if not you are usually eligible for a spay or neuter certificate which is also a great savings. Again, I'm very sorry for you and your family. Elaine |
I'm so glad you mentioned "backyard breeders". My baby came from a private home where the breeder keeps both male and female breeders. Yes it was clean, yes the puppys were warm, fed, shots, etc. But with 3-4 females dropping puppies constantly, the puppies are left in large (clean) enclosures, with almost NO interaction or socialization with people. My baby had to be taught how to play! She had no idea what a toy was, let alone stairs, carpet etc. I bought her to save her! |
To the OP. Please contact Libby Williams at NJCAPSA - New Jersey Consumers Against Pet Shop Abuse - Home. She is NJ Consumers Against Pet Shop Abuse, but she will post stories and bad breeders from other states. It is good for EVERYONE to know about this. She may also be able to help guide you as to if you can do anything more. She is a real good person. Elaine |
