New Addition...HELP!!!! We recently added Coco (female) to our family. She is 11 weeks and a real spark plug! The problem is that our 2 year old, Cali, has always been our little chicken. If it moves she's nervous! Well as you can imagine the little one is already asserting herself and it's killing us that Cali seems to already be assuming the passive/submissive role. It is making us feel terrible. We got Coco as a playmate, but Cali seems totally bummed about the whole thing! What we need are some very specific guidlines/advice to help transition Coco into the 'pack'. They have been together less than 10 days so now is the time to do things right. They do seem to play a bit but it seems so awkward. Thanks for any advice in advance. |
I would try walki one on each side of you walking them side by side in the begining. If you have someone to walk with you have them walk the dog on there right arm and you walk holding a dog with your left eventually you can both switch to the opposite arm haveing the dogs walk side by side mimicking a pack. This should help. Remember the more you do it the more whey will be in teh pack mentality. |
Walking is a great way to bond the pack. Just like cdawnfine said. We've had a little trouble getting Boo to interact with Yogi. I get down on the floor and 'rough house' with them and help be a bit of a buffer for Boo. I made sure that Yogi didn't bully Boo, as puppies sometimes can. The last month or two I've noticed Boo initiating play with Yogi, so I've great hopes that a true bond will develop. Unfortunately for poor Boo, both Yogi and Gracie Ruth love to rough house and he usually gets it from both of them at the same time. But he's a big boy, 10 lbs, and can fend them off pretty well. |
