Why don't some yorkies look like yorkies
 

Are there different types

I would have to say that it depends on the parents, grandparents, etc. They come in all different sizes, some are tiny, some are larger it all depends, theres blue and gold, black and gold and different colors. It just all depends!!

Do you have a specific yorkie you're referring to? Silkie's can look alot like yorkies. What exactly is looking different to you?

The Yorkshire Terrier Club of America (YTCA) is the mother club of Yorkshire Terrier, and they set the standard for the yorkie. They encourage breeders to breed to this standard. The goal of any breeding should be to produce pups that meet standard, and standard is difficult to obtain, and produces a gorgeous dog that does look like a yorkie, but too many breeders think because there was a champion in the background it means that it ok to breed their dog. Nothing could be further from the truth, and most yorkies born, shouldn't be breed. Most breeders aren't trying to improve the breed, but are in the breeding "business." Whether a puppy mill or byb, these breeders don't care if the dog they breed is even close to standard. Some even take dogs that don't meet standard, and pass the fault as a positive, for example, in the case of Parti's and Chocolates. The YTCA believes that these dogs should not be bred, but placed in pet homes. Business breeders tend to market these dogs as "rare" and try to act like they are worth more than a yorkie who meets standard. Of course these breeders will deny they are in it for the money, and just think unusual colors are pretty, but then why charge more? There is a lot to learn about why breeding to standard is important to the breed, and why a breeder shouldn't breed for what is "popular" at the moment, but the primary reason breeding to standard is so important it that it's the only way to ensure a yorkie will still look like a yorkie 100 years from now. Another reason, Yorkies looks so different from each other is because Yorkies have the ability to grow long hair, there are many different hair styles they can wear, and changing the hair style can make a huge difference in appearence. Most dogs can't get that many different styles, because their hair is short.

I would say that alot of Yorkies don't look like Yorkie's SHOULD look because they aren't well bred. Meaning that the mothers and fathers that are used for breeding don't meet the breed standard - coloring, weight, coat type, etc. etc., etc.. the list goes on and on.

And then of course, some Yorkies don't look like Yorkies because they AREN'T Yorkies, lol. If someone is trying to sell you a Yorkie that doesn't even resemble one, chances are it is a mixed breed that the "breeder" is claiming to be a purebred Yorkshire Terrier.

And yes, Silky Terriers, Carin Terriers and Australian Terriers also resemble the Yorkies quite a bit - but they are different breeds all together.

So how can I make sure im getting a well breed yorkie just by looking at it as a puppy. Thanks for all the answers you guys

Also, if you go to reputable breeders web sites, you will see many pictures of how a Yorkshire Terrier puppy is SUPPOSED to look.

The only way to get a puppy who will grow up to look like a Yorkie is supposed to is to get one from a reputable breeder. I'd suggest you contact breeders on the YTCA breeder's list. You are lucky that there are a number of breeders on that list in Florida:

there's really just one type of yorkie. and since yorkie puppy and adult look quite different, its hard to predict if a puppy would look "appropriate" for an untrained person. so like the others said, to ensure your yorkie will look like a standard yorkie, only buy a yorkie from reputable breeders like Gleada~

Im not sure really some have really light grey hair which i read its called blue hair idk why my yorkie is has floppy ears it isnt pointy so i dont know why is that i guess it depends on the parents..:)

These pups are gorgeous! Did you happen to get Tatum there? There is the sweetest little pixie face on the puppy page that looks like her.
I was shocked (in a good way) to see that this breeder is very close by my area...less than hour away....I know where my next puppy will come from!!
