Hi! New to Yorkie Talk! Hi! I don't own a Yorkie but have been looking for one to adopt. I am horrified every time I hear of another breeding mill be raided and these beautiful dogs being abused. I would love to give one of these puppies a home. I wish there were a way for some of these babies to be given to foster homes or shelters here. There are so many of us in western NY looking for Yorkies. Whenever a Yorkie is available they are quickly adopted. These wonderful pups are so hard to find here. |
Welcome to YT!! Good luck finding you're furbaby:) |
Good luck in your search. Be patient and the right one will find you! Does your local shelter have a waiting list by any chance? That would be a great way to ensure one of the babies a good home. |
waiting list I don't know if they have a waiting list. I will have to check. There are many pitbull mixes and large breeds here for adoption. So many people let their animals breed and are not responsible. Or they put their dogs up for adoption because they don't understand that these babies are part of the family. It's like putting your child up for adoption because you no longer want the responsibility. It is so sad. Whenever any type of small dog is available for adoption, they go very quickly. |
Welcome to Yorkie Talk! Welcome to Yorkie talk! Good luck in your search.:teethysmi When I bought my boy 4 years ago it was from a lady who had a boy and girl and she just bred them both. I met mom and dad and actually my boys little bro. She really wasn't a breeder just someone who bred her 2 dogs. I found my best friend and the little love of my life..:p Good Luck!! :yorkietal:yorkiesar |
welcome to YT and good luck with your search. :animal36 |
Good Luck, When it is meant to be you will get one! Welcome! |
checked the shelter policy Thanks everyone. I checked the local shelter online. Their policy does not allow you to fill out a request form for a puppy or dog. It's first come, first serve. I am not looking for a show quality pet. The only reason I am looking for a female is because I have a porky neutered Schnoodle. He is my husband's BOY! We call him the little king! I know he would to better with a princess. I am in love with the Yorkies!! |
Welcome to YT! :wavey: Have you tried Petfinder? Pet adoption: Want a dog or cat? Adopt a pet on Petfinder - so many yorkies listed on there. Also, some of the breeders on here will sometimes look to rehome one of their girls. Good luck |
Welcome to YT! Good luck finding a new baby!:) |
Welcome to YT! Good Luck with your search. Your Princess will come along one day :) :animal-pa:animal-pa |
petfinder Hi! Yes, I have been to petfinder. Everything is out of state. I have tried all the various rescues and shelters. There have been some breeders in the area. However $1500 is out of the question for me. I think these wonderful pups are worth every penny, I just don't have it to shell out. I have many pets, a handicapped African gray (she has no toes, I raised her from a baby), a cat, bunny, canaries, parakeets, and fish! Some of these were left behind by my children going off to school and marriage. But there is nothing like having a little Yorkie in your lap! So I will keep looking and wait patiently. Thanks!:) |

as far as pricing, i think generally breeders will charge more, and 'backyard breeders' will charge less. (generally) but make sure you find a healthy puppy :) there are other places besides petfinder that you can search, have you tried kijiji.com or craigslist? good luck to you! :D |
Kijiji Yes, I check Kijiji and craigslist daily. I have done my homework and know that these beautiful babies are prone to many things. So I will be careful. I also like the Yorkie poodle mix. Thanks soooo much for caring! Everyone is wonderful on this site.:) |

Yorki poo :animal36 They are called Yorkie poos. When the dad is a Yorkie and mom a miniature poodle, they tend to look like Yorkie's, only with some curl to their coats. That's why I like them. It's what I like about my Schnoodle. His momma was a poodle and papa was a Schnauzer. He took on the coloring of his momma, apricot with curly hair, but has that schnauzer look. He weighs 27 lbs and thinks he is this tiny lap dog. He is not.:D So, I keep my eyes and ears open to see what is out there and what I can afford.:) |

i know it's really hard to look for one, i just don't think there are that many yorkie breeders where you and i live. if there are yorkie groups in your area, you can also join and ask the yorkie owners where they got their yorkies. check meetup.com to see if there are any yorkie groups in your area. :D |
Thanks for the info. I only know one person who owns a Yorkie. Hers is 7 years old. She was fortunate enough to get her baby for nothing, from a breeder when she was a puppy. This person no longer breeds. I am very patient and know when spring comes around, there may be more puppies available.:) |
Hi and Welcome to YT! Good luck in finding your baby. |
:welcome4: to YT. I just got my second yorkie yesterday!!! Chloe was my first yorkie...she is 23wks. I got her in December. I picked baby boy yesterday. He is 11wks and he's the same size as my 23wk old Chloe...It took me 2 months to find a good breeder in the area. I know what it's like to want one so bad and not be able to find one! Good luck with your search!!! Welcome to YT again!!!:) |

Thanks everyone! I received some bad news today. Seems I have to have some surgery and my husbands job starts laying off Monday. So, I will have to wait and see before I am able to purchase the baby of my dreams. Thank you to everybody for being so nice!:thumbs up |
Oh, I'm so sorry to hear about your situation. I'll pray for you and your family. |
