need to vent my mom in law is so freaking annoying. ARgh..she seems to always think she is right about training charlie..her methods is to hit him. Hell No! Charlie would be in his crate sometimes when i need to do something..he would bark for attention..i try to ignore his barking b/c i know he doesn't need anything else...my mom in law would go and open up his crate and then reward him by taking him outside. She does this all the time..then for her to tell me charlie is bad b/c i am not training him right...argh! she always complain too when i let charlie sit on my lap..charlie is my baby and i can train him however i want to..it is none of her business. she needs to go get her own dog. |
Poor thing, I don't want to know what she will be like once she has a human grandchildren. Hope things get better for you. |
hahha..that is why charlie is all they are getting..i refused to have a grandkid for him. |
Aw, I'm sorry hope things start to get better. |
lol...can't say I wouldn't blame you! |
Ugh, how frustrating. I know it's annoying when someone is undermining all the training you are working to do. I know how hard it can be to ignore them anyways when they cry out for attention. |

I love pennies in a can for barking. You fill a tin can half way up with pennies and say no and shake the can when barking. Do this for every bark, when the dog if finally quite she can release him from the crate, but not while he's barking, because as you say, she is reinforcing his barking. You need to have a heart to heart with your mother, when you are not angry, and she's not busy. Tell her you have a plan for treating his bad behavior, and it's important that everyone be consistent in the training. Try not to make her feel "wrong", but that there are other methods that work better long term. |

Nancy, you are just to smart. Love the pennies in a can idea. |
"her methods is to hit him?" omg, I would not let her near my baby! your going to have to lay down the rules ! Easier said then done. iknow she's your MIL, but Charlie is your pup/your baby and your responsibilty. It is one thing for her to critisize you, but a ahole different story if she's using phical punishment on Charlie. To me that is not right! I's be tempted to say to her, "stay the hell away from Charlie" She needs to have her own dog to train, however, I'd feel sorry for the dog! LOL . |
oh no! i am sorry that your mom in law hits your dog. i would be VERY angry. i would not let my dog near people who i don't trust to properly interact with the doggie. i think beside training your puppy, you might also need to train your mom in law that its not ok to hit your dog. try to communicate with her, and let her know that the old ways of training the dog is actually not the best way to do it. |
I think if anyone hit Teiya, if she didn't bite them, I would. Monster in laws can be difficult and sometimes it can be awkward to explain things to them in a comfortable fashion. If she wants a perfectly behaved dog, stuffedanimals.com has tons that will always be quiet and sit when you tell them to. My monster in law just rolled her eyes and gave me "the look" when she found out I got a Yorkie. Of course, it doesn't help that I have 8 parrots in this house too! She's got a true hairless chinese crested. IMO, probably the ugliest dog I've ever met and he's obnoxious as hell. |
