The amazing growing puppy... how big will he get? Hey everyone, My beautiful boy is going to be five months next week, and he yesterday he weighed in at 7 pounds!!! :rolleyes: I am so curious to know what I should expect size wise. I think he wants to be a big boy and the blue fairy is granting his wish.;) |
A general rule of thumb is to double their 12 week weight. You can pretty much expect a growth spurt between 6 - 8 months and he may end up weighing 9 pounds |

I wish I had written down his weight at 12 weeks, but I didn't! All I know is, every month he grows rappidly. When he was 8 weeks he was two pounds. So if he isn't already in the growth spurt stage, I can't imagine what a growth spurt for him will be! LOL. I love him being bigger sized, though I do want to be able to still carry him to make it easier to travel on the subways (in the city, they have to be in bags or crates to go on the subway.) So as long as he's under 12 pounds I should be fine. But that's the only thing I'm concerned about...other than that I like the bigger ones. More to cuddle :D He was projected to weight between 7-10 pounds when we brought him home, so we knew he'd be bigger, but now I'm wonder if he'll be more like 30!!!! Hahaha. |
I think he will be 10-11 lbs. That is still small. I have an 11 lber I pick up and carry all the time and I am a small person |

The 12 week rule doesn't always apply though. My Riley was already 4 pounds at 16 weeks and now as an adult of almost 4 years old he weighs 4.2 My boyz both stopped growing around 5 months. I think you have to take a look at the parents, grandparents and great grandparents of your puppy to get a better idea of where they might end up...genetics plays an important role in their adult size. Small parents can always have a throw back puppy to a member down the line somewhere...kind of like having a red headed baby when both parents are brunettes. :) |

LOL. Wow. Yeah 16 pounds is heavy. I guess yorkies originally were around 13 pounds. I wonder why "they" decided that up to 7lbs is considered the "right" size. |

That is a big difference. He's my teddy bear, and the bigger the teddy bear, the more he can give me bear hugs back. He's such a little cuddler, and that's the main thing I wanted in a yorkie :D |
