Does your dog wear diapers? I put a diaper on Teiya when she's in the house because she's just learning how to let me know when she needs to go out. I was wondering how many other people use diapers/pants/panties on their Yorkies? I've spent my day designing panties to coordinate with the dresses I've been making. If you use diapers, what do you like most about them and what do you hate? Is there anything you can think of that would make them easier or more convenient? |
While house training they shouldn't have run of the house. They should be kept in a non-carpeted room or an expen with pee-pads down and taken outside every hour. I think diapers should be used on dogs who are incontinence or maybe dogs or puppies that pee in the car when traveling. |
:) Hello, yes I use diapers for my little girl haleigh......I use the jean type diaper and just put a pad inside. Haleigh every now and again, will run to the door to let me know to take her diaper off so she can go potty. Haleigh doesnt seem to mind at all...In fact she loves to be dressed up... I tryed everything to potty train her, she did pretty good on the pee pee pads, but she always would slip up and have an accident on the floor. Its great peace of mind to know that she is happy running and play, with free run of the house. And I no longer have to worry about where she is going pee pee. So everyone is happy at the end.......Haleigh can play, and I dont have a pee pee smelling home...:) |
My little girl is in diapers because she is in heat . . .she doesn't seem to mind them, and they are only used because she is bleeding . . . we adopted her when she was older (6 months) and she really took to the wee pads immediately. It is a rare occasion that she misses and goes on the floor. We got our little boy as a small puppy (10 weeks old) and we kept him in the spare bathroom with the wee pads. Although both go outside to potty 85% of the time now, having the wee pad on snowy and/or rainy days where going outside is a pain, it is worth it. |
I Love dressing my girls, but only use diapers in the house when my silkie which is the only one not spayed is in heat. hugs, cArmen in nj |
I used Pampers on my shihtzu during the last 2 years of her life. She was getting lazy waiting for her daily walks. After wetting her diapers a couple of times, she started holding it again because of the discomfort of a wet diaper. I had thought at first that she was "at that age" where she had lost bladder control, but found out that wasn't the case. We had stopped using it for a couple of months until she decided to not hold it in again. With it on, she generally doesn't go until her walk. Before her senior years, she was pretty good about going to the bathroom only on walks or on the pad we leave out for her when we're not home for longer periods. But early on, she was a poop eater, so we had at some point stopped laying out a pad for her. She only had maybe an accident or two or three a month so it wasn't a big problem. My yorkie was 4.5 months when she came to me and was already paper trained for the most part. So it was a breeze to complete her training as she only had about 3 other spots she'd pee on around the house and eventually stopped going to those spots with some training and restrictions. Never had to confine her to one room during all of this--only had to block her off of half a hallway where she liked to go at first to pee in front of one of the rooms. I don't think I'd diaper one so young. I like to let their skin and hair breathe as much as possible. |

Yes, diapers will not help you dog learn to be housebroken. They are useful on older dogs who suffer from incontinence, and when girls are in heat. |
I used them for the first month to learn is potty schedule. like how long after eating and playing did he need to go..some books say 45 mins some say 30 for him it was an 50 mins to a hour he needed to go outside. once i learned his patteren and he learned that it was a bad idea to go in the house i took them off. He doenst wear them anymore now that he like to lift his leg and go outside... i say they are a good start and great when you take them to others ppls houses and they are fully trained... |
No i have never used diapers on Suzi . She took fast to the pee pads , so there were no problems. She also uses the bathroom outside. :aimeeyork |
