Another puppy? Does anyone have any advice about getting a 2nd puppy? Pros and cons? Male or female? (Cali is a girl and will be fixed) Should we wait till she is older? Same breed? I would love some feedback! I am thinking if we decide to do it we will wait until summer break. My husband and I are both teachers so we would both be off. |
I have 3 yorkies all females and love it. I have a Cali too! I think having them fairly close in age is nice as they have the same energy levels. I like having all the same breed. Summer would be a great time since you are both home. |
"Yorkies are like potato chips... you can't have just one..." The more the merrier... I'm always glad that we got Minnie and Maximus b/c Minnie is close in age to Mikki and those two are playing and running together all day. Before poor Maggie was bothered by Mikki all day long... |
Do those of you with more than two have a yard to let them out into, or do you have to walk them. I have to walk mine, and don't know how anyone can walk more than 2, but I am in awe of how many people here have multiples. I would love another, but my condo limits us to two. Also, have that walking problem, since I am the only one who walks them. Also juggling those poop bags. |
I am also planning to get another one since I am no longer looking after my sister's lab, we moved to a flat and Cash is alone for a big part of the day. He deals with it alright, but I want to get him a friend to keep him company - he loves playing with other doggies. The best times to upgrade (:D) is either to get two littermates to begin with or to get another one when your current baby is well-trained enough to be a good role model. I have been posting this everywhere, but the breeder I want to get a puppy from has a dam giving birth today or tomorrow. Fingers crossed that there will be a girl!! |
I have only one right now. I am thinking of getting another one. Has anyone had any dealings with any reputable breeders in Illinois? If so, can you let me know who they are? Thanks! |
We called the lady and Cali's brother and sister have been sold already.:( We are going to keep our eye for "the one"! haha |
I agree with the other posts. Waiting until summer break would be great and if Cali can be a good role model for your new little one is even better. I enjoy same breed, same sex. Pros - EVERYTHING!! Cons - a few more tootsi rolls to pick up - big whoop! I have 2 babies, 4 & 6 yrs boys, the energy level is a little different, but they act like litter mates, totally love each other. I could never have them separated, I don't think they could handle it. Hoping to add a brother this summer as well. Good luck in your search! |
We were thinking of getting a male b/c they are generally cheaper so we will have more money to spend on care. My husband's thought process is that it will help us b/c Cali will have someone else to entertain her besides us...thus taking the pressure off us to be the sole source of entertainment for her. Also, she will be happier b/c she will have a companion while we are at work. I am wondering if that will be the case? :animal-pa:) |
my two are 5 months apart & they have the same dad, different moms. boy & girl and i wouldn't change it! they love to play with each other alllll the time and they never get bored! main reason why i got madison was so that riley could have a playmate while my boyfriend and i are at work. i chose a girl because i wanted to buy cute girly clothes too hahaha :p i really want a third soon but that probably won't be until after we move to cali later on this year :) |
I would like another one but couldn't imagine the expense of two. We bought Piper in July, $1800. Then the cost of everything you need for the puppy, $250. Trips to the vet for shots about $60 every month for 3 months. Groomer $45 every 6 weeks. Then 6 weeks ago $1200 for hip surgery. Multipy this times 2 and your broke. |
Oh get another one .... I have two They are two boy litermates and they are great together ..... and great company for one another |
