Will she get bigger?
 
Jersey is 9.5 months old and weighs exactly 3.8 lbs. Will she get bigger? If so, how much.. She seems so tiny and fragile and petite and I really want her to fill out some and get bigger!! Any experienced input would be great! :)

She is probably close to what her adult weight will be. I have found that by that age they are close, but in the next year she could add possibly another pound/.

Thanks! Do you think she will fill out any, or will she always be petite. She is well fed but she just seems like she is all bones. I want her to put some meat on her bones...:)

Has she gained less weight than expected, or was she a small newborn? What were her parent's sizes? I don't want to alarm you, but smaller puppies sometimes are small due to genetics, but sometimes it's due to health problems, and you can't always tell unless you do a test. Being small is one thing, being skinny is another thing.

Well her mom was 5lbs and her dad was 3lbs. She is not unhealthy, I took her to the vet and he said she is just small, but he thinks the idea of someone possibly guessing at a dog's full grown size or making a chart about it is ridiculus so he is no help. She is tiny. Short, short legs, she does not look like she is underweight, but when you pick her up, she is just tiny. I was hoping she would be atleast 5lbs which is what the chart said she would be.. I was hoping maybe she would hit a growth spurt pretty soon...

Do you remember how much Jersey weighed at 6 months? I'm just being nosey because Missy's Mom and Dad are the same weight as Jersey's. Missy is also very petite, so I know what you mean. It's like a slender build. She eats well now that I homecook for her. My vet said I'd be lucky if she gains another .5-1lb. Anyways, I'm just curious about Jersey's growth curve. Missy has been following the Yorkie Puppy Growth Chart at a rate for an eventual weight of 3.5 lbs.

I was giving prince Nutri Cal (i believe it's called) it seemed to help him "fill out." but I was taking him for routine walks as well when he was trained to walk on his leash... He is about 6lbs @ 8 months

Oh, when you said she was "all bones" I thought you meant she was skinny. That’s why breeders study the pedigree, or family tree. You learn if mom was the biggest, smallest, or just average of her relatives, same with dad, some 4 pound studs, were the runts of the litter, and throw off puppies much bigger than themselves so that's why understanding the line is so important if you want to accurately predict future weight. The chart is just a tool, with a margin of error. Did you have a bile acids test done, I don't think the vet would know if there a problem without doing this. If she passed that, I wouldn't worry, some yorkies are thinner and some are tiny with a more cobby body.

My baby Chloe weighs 2lb2oz. She is 22wks. She is all skin and bones too. She is slowly filling out...I put doggie milk supplement on her food. She gained 6oz since I started doing this two weeks ago.
She is so fragile!!

Jersey has been between 3 and 3.5 since she was 6 months old.. I did have the bile acid test done and everything is fine. I just hate feeling like she is going to break... I feed chicken soup for the puppy lovers soul and they get treats..I know I cannot make her fatter, I just want her to be thicker if that makes any sense and I didn't know if they filled out more or exactly when you could call it quits on the growing..I cannot understand why anyone would want to purposely have a 2.5-3 lber.. They are so fragile....

I hear ya! I am constantly worried about Missy too. I won't let other dogs near her. I won't let anyone hold her. She is well socialized and around people all day, I just don't trust anyone else to hold her. She's too small and fragile. I learned that the hard way when she broke her leg from jumping off my hand 4" off of the ground. I know vets aren't always right, and every dog is different...but my vet told me last week not to expect her to grow much more other than to "fill out". So maybe there is a chance that Jersey will get thicker over the next few months. I guess just like people, they are all built so different. It's really hard to say...

Wow! Fiona is 11 months old and weighs a solid 10.2 lbs!

That's what I thought when Joeys was a puppy, he was 3 pounds forever, and I prayed all the time he would get bigger, he didn't have a growth spurt until after 6 months and is now 5 1/2 pounds, but at 9 months I doubt if she will grow much. She might put on a few ounces, but she sounds like she's also delicately boned. Are you familiar with the term cobby body? These yorkies have a studier look, even though, some are quite small, they are just "bigger boned," and I don't mean fat! :D Were you planning on using her to breed, she doesn't sound like she'll ever be able to do that, but for someone looking for a petite pet, she would be perfect. I'm with you, I'm more comfortable with a somewhat larger dog, but the tinies are so darn adorable.
