I need advice Hello Fellow Yters, Ive made a few posts about my newer pup Bowie and his interaction with my older pup ava and i now have yet another question. Bowie is now 8 almost 9 months old, he has been neutered and he has still not calmed down. He is still very mean to ava. He blocks her every time she trys to come into the room, he is always harassing her and he is just plain mean anytime she is visiting. I dont know how to correct this. Can anyone help? |
I have a male who is 10 months and a female who is 3, and the same dynamic on occasion. When Gatsby gets too aggressive, I just tell him to stop it! and he usually does right away. Maybe its just something you need to work on with physical intervention/separation if he does not listen to you at first. Usually my pack plays well together, and love to play chase and tug of war, but there are times when he bites her ear and I can tell she has had enough. At that point, I can yell at Gatsby and get him to knock it off. Another thing I do is let Daisy on my lap, she likes that and it ends the rough play and gives her a break. Good luck. |
I have the same problem with the room blocking, won't let play with toys, occasional stalking and nipping on the ear. Other times, they cuddle and play nicely. I do the same thing. I command Sadie to "leave it" and then often pick up Joey and turn my back on Sadie. I don't know if it's right, but seems to break the behavior. |
Thanks guys, I do tell him tostop, and i say NO but it doesnt seem to do anything. |
I agree with picking up Ava and turning you back to Bowie...dogs hate being ignored and if you don't make eye contact and body block him, it should have some improvement. Does Bowie do this when on the couch with you? If so make him get down as soon as he does it and let Ava stay up. When he being nice you need to praise him. These little guys are a feisty little breed. Barley jumps up on my Great Pyrenees and pulls out cotton balls of fur. Lucky for him my GP (Garrett) is a saint and ignores him. However, I correct him each time I see it, as it's not fair to Garrett. Good luck with them. |
