I always take Fiona's collar off while she is in her crate, and if she is just relaxing with me inside, sometimes I'll take it off, sometimes I'll leave it on. I never leave her harness on either. |
no collars are worn here, Just a harness is worn when we go on walks only! :D |

I'm comfortable with Missy not wearing an ID collar because there is no way for her to run out of the house. She stays on the top floor of my house only. She has no reason to go in the basement. My back door has a deck with a locked gate, and she'd have to jump over a baby gate and go down a long set of stairs to get out the front door. I've got 3 young skin kids too, so I have to keep everything safe. :) Missy will be getting microchipped with her spay in a few weeks. I don't think it's necessary for her to have a collar. When I take her out she wears her harness and leash, and I carry her down the stairs and out the front door. If things change and I felt she should wear ID all of the time, I'd just use her harness. It's a silk harness that I bought from Chattiesmom, she doesn't even notice when she's wearing it. |
riley used to wear his collar but i dont want madison to chew on it so i'm gonna put it back on him when shes over that stage. she'll have one too. i don't use the collar with their leashes though, they both use step in harnesses with the leashes. |
I do both During the day when I'm at work and the dogs are indoors the collars are off, so they can be comfortable. But when I'm home and they are going in and out often I do leave them on. I would like to warn everyone that in the small town I live in (less then 12,000) there was recently a Yorkie puppy stolen right out of a child's arms by a lady. The puppy hasn't been seen since and that was almost a month ago. It's very sad, and has helped me decide to have mine micro-chipped. :) |
I have a cat's breakaway collar w/tag, but I haven't used it lately as I always use a harness when we go out for walks. However after hearing about Yoshi that got me to thinking, what if something were to happen during the day when I'm at work and if my lil one were to get out at least she would have some form of identification....sooooo she is going to start wearing her's again. |
in the house ...no collars/harness. when we go out to doggie play date or for walks, or in the car they wear their harnesses. |

That is why my three "big" (compared to Puddin') dogs wear collars with tags at all times. When Puddin' is big enough to have the run of the house (we never leave her home alone at this age) she will wear a collar with ID tags, too, even though she is also microchipped. My house has burglar bars on it (normal in SA) and we were quite certain that our house was pretty safe from intruders...and yet we came home to find a window removed from its frame and the dogs wandering in and out at will! If a thief comes to your house and leaves the front door open as he leaves, you'll be glad your babies were wearing collars with ID tags on them! |
I usually leave chesters harness on even when Im gone or I have a break away cat collar as well I will use sometimes |
Wow how scarry and sad to come home to a break in. I crate my dogs and we are very diligent of where they are at all times. I have one seventeen year old who is very good with the dogs as well. As everyone else here I feel as though my dogs are my babies and will do anything for them. Thanks for the information. |
Jackson wears his all the time because he's constantly going in and out. |
