1st Time Puppy Owner 1 Attachment(s) Hi everyone! I thought I would introduce myself and let you all know that I have been "lurking" for a few days. We just bought a Morkie and got her last Friday. I have never had a dog before and am EXTREMELY unsure of myself even though I have 5 children! We named our puppy Eliza Doolittle and she is absolutely adorable, although, things have definitely not gone smoothly. Two days after we got her I broke her leg--it was horrible. She likes to follow me and she got tangled in my feet. The Vet wrapped her leg--so cute-- and she seems to be feeling better, but, now Miss Eliza has blood spots in her stools. I have another appointment with the Vet today. To top it off my youngest son has developed a case of hives. I am trying to convince myself it has nothing to do with our puppy. We'll see. I have had kids with random cases of hives before. I just wanted to say that you all seem like such loving and kind people and I hope to be one of you. Wish us luck here in our castle of chaos! |
I don't think hives are related to the dog...Usually a reaction would be more like hay fever. It might be the shampoo they used on her. Did you give him benadryl? Welcome to YT!!!! Enjoy your new baby:aimeeyork |
Yorkies are great for People that are prone to Alergies because they do not shed. You need to buy a little bell that will go on Elizas collar. These little guys can get stepped on easily. I put a bell on Pablo who is 7 month. |
1 Attachment(s) Thanks for the replies. I like the bell idea, although in this case I KNEW she was coming up behind me and we just misjudged each other. My 9 year old was actually right behind the puppy and blames herself for not foreseeing it and picking Eliza up. We had some tears and will have to keep figuring out ways to keep the puppy safe. On a positive note, the Vet said that Eliza does not have an ear infection as she had previously thought. They were just really dirty--she cleaned them out. The blood in her stools seem to have been caused by her pain medication, which she doesn't appear to need at ALL and so I have discontinued. They added a splint to her leg wrap--just to be on the safe side and I think Eliza is on the upswing. |
adorable Eliza Doolittle is adorable! I am a first time Yorkie owner. Brody is 4 months old. I also have an 8 year old poodle, Jolie. Trust me, starting over with Brody was just that...starting over! You'll get the hang of being a new "mom". Just be patient. And the hives are probably not from the dog. My son is allergic to absolutely everything, but not our dogs. Hives are normally a result of eating something (I got them from eating oranges when I was little) or switching detergants. |
I used to have to have a bell on little Tink's collar, as when she was younger she used to wander off around the house and when she went for wee-wees and poopies outside, God know's what she was up to on some occasions, but with the bell I knew exactly where she was!! Good luck with Eliza - you'll be needing it as she grows! Puppies are so mischeivous!!!! xXx |
Eliza is absolutely adorable!! A bell will help for sure! Although it is a little annoying at times!!:) They even have the cutest little Hello Kitty Bells on ebay you can just attach to her collar!! Check it out!:) :) :) |
Getting tangled in your feet can certainly happen. One of my boys is apparently a reincarnated speedbump, you're cruising along and suddenly there he is...he's everywhere...no way to turn and avoid him...Bump Bump....sorry Gismo!:D |

Lilmissy, you must have read my mind. I was going to mention that we do alot of "shuffling" around here. One of the girls is always under your feet. At the worst, they go skating across the floor. We've never had any broken bones, but with our "drama queens" everything is traumatic. Glad to hear that everyone is healing up. Don't beat yourself up, it happens. |
Welcome to YT!!!!!!!!! Hope the baby's leg gets all better soon, they do seem to always be under your feet. They just always want to be near us:) |
