New adult yorkie bonding Wonder how well a new adult (3 years old) will bond? Any hints and/or tips? This adult is coming from a VERY reputable breeder so I am sure she is socialized well. Thank you. |
 sorry i cant personally help you with this , i am sure there will be some one that can :D but i hope everything goes well for you  love jill n poppy xx :aimeeyork |
I think it should only take a few days to weeks for her to bond with you & your family. I got my Lucky from a Rescue when he was almost 3 years old. He came from a family who had way too many dogs and they gave 3 of them up. Lucky was one of the 3. I think it all depends on the dog and their personality also. Good Luck!!!:goodluck: |
Thank you for sharing your experience. |
I just got Molly this past weekend and she is 4. So far, she has done great! She is my shadow and hates to leave my side. :) I think you and your new baby will do just fine! :D |

I got my yorkie at the age of 7, she has been my shadow as well. I've had her about 4 months now and she is definitely bonded to me. She has followed me around the house from the day I bought her home and she has never stopped. I think this is the reason why training her to use the potty pads has been difficult. She will not leave my side long enough to go use the potty pad. Fortunately for me, she will let me know when has to go potty (most of the time ). While I enjoy her following me around, I want her to feel comfortable enough that she can leave my side to roam the house and I will still be there when she gets back. Just show her lots of love and be very patient and you should be okay. |
I have not personally had the experience , however, if I were to bring one home at that age, i'd give her all the love and attention I could. Petting her and talking to her, spend time with her, and offer treats once in a while. |
I have adopted four small adult dogs in the past 5 years, ranging in age from 2 to 14 years. The first few nights the dog is in the house, I put it in bed with me and cuddle the dog to my chest and tummy. After a few days of this, they were put in the dog bed. For the most anxious dog, I made her a bed beside my bed for a few more days before transitioning to the dog bed. This seems to make the dog less anxious in those first few days and help it to realize you are their protector. One of my rescue dogs has since gone on to Doggie Heaven, but the other 3 still consider time in Mama's bed to be the most desirable activity in the world! |
Welcome to YT! I adopted my 2 when they were about 2 1/2 - they came together and had been together since they were just a few mths old. I was most concerned about Roxy because when I visited with her, she was so shy. But they immediately adjusted & I had really been worried. Well know we have been together almost 5 years - 5 of the very best years as we are so deeply bonded -- and I have always had pets :) |
I am new here but I adopted a 6 year old Yorkie about six weeks ago. She is my shadow and has been since the first day. She is lying in my lap now. |
