Dueling Yorkies This is a question for those of you who have more than one yorkie. What do you do when they get into a fight? DH stomps his foot on the floor and they break it up right away but that doesn't work for me. In fact I think they resent me for touch one or the other and the fight escalates. I'm fortunate that they don't fight often but the last one they had was pretty bad. To top that off it is sometimes hare to tell if they are play fighting or not. Neither one of them will back down! |
Hm. Well, sometimes I supervise play groups at the local shelter.... Play fighting can get pretty rough. We usually break it up by stomping on the floor also. We intervene if there is humping, if one dog gets pinned for more than a second or two, or if multiple dogs repeatedly gang up on one dog. Otherwise, high pitched yelps, blood, or if one of the dog tries to hide behind you for protection. If a floor stomp doesn't work for you, try clapping your hands, a stern deep voice, or keep a spray bottle handy. |
I have been using a whistle. If has worked pretty good. They all run over when I blow the whistle and that breaks the mood. |
If they're wearing their harnesses, it's easy. I just grab each one by the harness and separate them. (and try not to get bitten). If they don't have harnesses on, I shake a can with pennies, or spray bottle. That usually works. :aimeeyork |
Well, I've tried wearing a black and white striped referee shirt, didn't work. lol. So usually I grab whichever one I can get a hold of first, and hold them for a couple of minutes until tempers settle down. They are little scrappers, aren't they?:dizzy: |
