When to Start Feeding Adult Food? Ruby is now 6 months old and I am still feeding her puppy food. I was wondering if someone out there can tell me if should start to feed adult food now or should I wait a little more. When is the right age to start feeding adult food or to change from puppy to adult food. All input is sure appreciated. Thanks. |
I was wondering that myself. Deegan is going to get neutered in a month, (he will be 6 months then), so I was just going to ask the vet then. I'm sure that someone can help you out, or you can call your vet. |
Most thngs I've read say 8-12 months,,, I switched Bailey at 8 months, cause he was pretty beefy, puppy food has alot of fillers and fat , so I switched to adult, without a problem. ( mix it with the puppy food at first). |
I'm switching Brody at 10 months. That's what my dog food company recommends (Royal Canin). |
i had asked the vet 2 weeks ago. lexi is 5 months old now. she said lexi is still a puppy, no hurry to change her food as long as it agrees with her no problem..so i figure i'll wait until shes a year old and then figure out what food to give her. |
I had asked my vet and he said to keep Bella on puppy food until she turns 1 then start mixing in adult food slowly. He said that there are certain nutrients that puppies need from puppy food, they are still in the growing process. Bella turns 1 on Sept. 23, so I'll start mixing her food then. |

I asked the same question awhile back and the breeders on the forum recommended 1 year so that's when did it :) |

I was gonna say the same thing...I've got an 8 month old and a 3 month old...I think I'm gonna wait til 1 year so I won't have them on two different things for too long...my older one is only 3.5 lbs.... |
My vet said 12 months and you could even go a little longer since they are such small dogs. |
I just switched @ 10 months. |
