Does your Yorkie bark too much? I have set up a new POLL QUESTION - please check it out - am interested to see if our Yorkies live up to their reputations as yappy, barking dogs.............. Thanx |
I wouldn't call Buster yappy, but he definitely is vocal. He'll bark when he hears the garage door open, when he really really wants you to play fetch with him, or when there's a lot of commotion outside. It's only very rarely obnoxious. One thing I've noticed: he's only vocal inside our house. In public, he never, ever barks. |
Samson has the yappy bark when he hears someone at the front door or a strange noice in the house (yesterday he was growling at the thunder, we live in AZ and hardly get any rain where I live so this was a new noice;)). I would say he isn't the sterotype yorkie when it comes to barking. Harley is very young, only 11 weeks old so I don't think he has found his voice yet. When he does I believe he will be the yappy dog. He is already very vocal when he plays, sleeps, walking around the house. He just makes these sad whinning noices or is expressive when he plays. |
Not really .... but when they wake up at 5 am and start chasing after each other and barking Then Yeah... they bark too much It's all depending on the context I guess |
Mine just bark when they see someone at the door or sometimes when they see something outside. They rarely bark in public though |
charlie only barks when he is in his crate and needs to go potty and when he is home alone..otherwise, he doesn't make a sound when we are around or if he doesn't need to go. |
Jackson barks quite a bit, I guess you could say. Not ALL the time. I don't know, he's really not THAT bad but certain times really irritate me and I'm trying to train him to lessen the barking somehow... when he's begging for food, he will sit under your feet and just bark up at you. And he has that high pitched bark, it's awful, sometimes he scares me cuz it comes out of nowhere, lol. The minute I leave the room, he barks. At my dad's house, he has a fence with a huge yard and his dog Lily who Jackson loves, and the minute I'm on the other side of the fence, he barks nonstop. i'm kinda looking for a solution right now, lol. |
Guess Wookie is like the others posted here. He barks when stimulated. He sits on the back of a chair by the window and barks when things go by, people, cars, birds, a leaf!! He will bark when he hears sounds around the house that are unusual or if he gets woke up at night by something. AND he has started this habit (and it is my fault) of barking at me when he wants me to get in the floor and play with him. But he doesn't bark when we are in public or for no reason. |
Do they or do they not bark ???????? :littleang:eek::animal36..well all 6 of mine and my dads [he is on vacation] total 7 of them.bark if the squirls are out or up the tree, and the 3 girls[beagles] next to us come out.And i swear they hear my husband comming home in the truck. So yes they do bark:animal36 |
Biggie occasionally barks when playing with us but generally he only barks when he need sto alert us (someone at door, hears a car door on driveway, strange noise at night, etc.) For the longest time we were concerned when he was a pup because he would not bark at all. He really did not start until he was close to 5 months or so. |
Buddy was a late barker not barking until he was around 5months. I thought how lucky was I. That didn't last long. I had to start training him with pennies in a can. Evenutally he learned to bark only when someone knocked on our door or a strange dog outside. He will growl lowly at other times but does not bark. He never barks out doors on walks. With training you can teach them not to bark at just anything. Time and patience will correct that. |
WOW...shocking. LOL! Izzy hardly ever barks...LIke seriously I can count it on my hand. She only barks at me when Im sitting and eating something and she wants some of it...which has only happened twice because ussually when I eat she eats so...I never hear my izzy bark. She cries a lot though, I mean...well if she wants to go to the bathroom or something she will whine but not bark. hmmm. |

What? What? Did you say something?? I can' t hear you because Shelby & Seymour are barking at EACHOTHER!!! :p |
In answer to your question, YES!!!:D |
Rarely. |
Yappy!!!! Woody wasn't bad until we got Bogie. Now he is the little instigator, OMG! I know with training you can control the barking, I guess I'm not one of the better mommy trainers. It is an issue in our house, I'm researching the citronilla bark collars, bot not sure yet. At least I have gotten them so they don't bark at every golfer that goes by when we are in the back yard, not good if they're putting!!! |
Hardley ever does he bark, Only at people that knock on the door or wildlife that shouldn't be in the yard. I didn't even know if he could bark for the longest time. He makes alot of other funny noises if he wants something though, He thinks he's a person so he talks instead of barking;) |
Constantly!!!! |
Any tips to minimize barking?! |

I would have to say that Fiona is by no means Yappy, but she is vocal! She loves to make cute little piggie noises, and she does bark when she sees other dogs or people outside, but I can tell her HUSH and she will simmer down! |
Only when we play. Lots of low growls, tho - love it! |

I have also heard putting pennies in a can and shaking it when they bark works too:) |
UGH Lexi drives me NUTS if she hears a door shut outside she goes hysterical and most of the time she only thinks she hears something.. i live in an apartment so i feel sorry for my neighbors :(. but i dont know what to do bc she just will not stop! but its funny bc her food bowl and peepad are in the bathroom.. and sometimes when people come over they forget to leave the light on for her. shell stand right outside the door and growl at the darkness  and when her food bowl is empty shell bark and scratch like shes digging for food i love my little fur with personality |
Yessss!! WAY TOO MUCH!! IT'S OUT OF CONTROL!! I've posted numerous threads on help to try and stop it....I still have not been successful...ahhhhhhhhhh.....as I'm writing this, she's going nuts at the rain!! How the heck am I supposed to stop the rain from coming down!! Great, she's going to be barking all night now...ugh :( |
Lily has been barking terrible at EVERYTHING and so loud!! I am at my wits end with her barking. She barks at everything when I take her for a walk or do anything with her. If we are on the phone she won't shut up at all. I have tried coins in can, water bottle etc etc???? I hope someone knows what to do and they post it here!!! HELP!!!! |
