BIG baby? I had Puddin' at the vet yesterday for a baseline check up and to get her de-fleaed. She was weighed at the time and I was astonished to see she weighs .834 kg...1lb 13.4 ounces. Isn't that a lot for a 6.5 week old Yorkie? I've checked the growth chart, but since I don't know her birth weight and she goes off the chart for a 6 week old, I don't know if she's in the normal range or not. The vet tech didn't seem concerned, but I am! If she is 1lb 13.4 oz at 6.5 weeks, any idea what kind of adult size she may grow to? Is there a "rule of thumb" that predicts adult sizes from baby sizes (rough estimates, of course)? She seems so small to me, but she is only six weeks and nearly 2 lbs...that seems so BIG! |
The general rule of thumb...triple the 8 week weight or more accurate than that...double the 12. |

Looks like she's gonna be a big girl! |
Mika was 3lb at 8 weeks, she peaked at 8lbs at 5-6 months and now varies between 7 and 8lb at 11 months! I don't know if she will get any bigger but she still seems tiny to me so I don't mind:rolleyes: |
Funny you posted this...I just had Bella at the vets on Monday and she weighed in at 2lbs 3 oz at 12 weeks. She will be 13 weeks on Friday. I was like wow...the last time she was weighed was when she was 8 weeks and she weighed 1lb 9 oz....Anyways, I was just on here looking for the weight chart to see what she may be as an adult. When I bought her the guy told me she would be about 4lbs..but who knows...LOL I wouldnt be mad if I had a chunky monkey...:) |

TO to the OP its hard to tell how big they will be. The charts from what Ive seen are mostly wrong, but it can give you an "estimate" of her adult weight. You cant go by the breeder (most of the time) or by the size of the parents because your pup could have the genes of its great granparents that may have been bigger. You could triple thier weight at 8 weeks or double it at 12 weeks but again that is just an estimate. So pretty much you will have to just wait and see. :D A 6 to 8 pound dog is still small, and if she turns out to be a bigger yorkie you can always join the teapot club. :animal36 |
it does really depend on the puppy :) my bentley was a whopping 1lb, 8oz (1.5 lbs) before he was 4 weeks old...i mean he was way off the weight charts LOL ... he is full grown now (16 months old) and weighs about 3.5 - 3.7 lbs ... either way, i am sure your baby will be beautiful  |
Jackson was 6 pounds at 12 weeks old! And is currently 8.6 pounds at approx. 16-17 weeks. (I'm losing track of weeks!) |
I think you got yourself a teapot! Welcome to the club!!!:D |
Alex went to the vet Friday -- he is 6 weeks and is 1.9 lbs. We go back in 2 weeks for another check up so we will see. To me he is very tiny! I seen the pictures of your baby she looks like Alex. Hugs |
