something that really ticked me off this weekend My girlfriend and I were walking our yorkies on this wonderful spring tease weather we are having in the DC area. We went by a house a couple of blocks away, where we knew another Yorkie lived, a very cool one at that with a long coat, all black and tan with no silver blue (I am a big fan of that coloration scheme, it just looks good to me and who does not enjoy seeing other Yorkies on your walks)? I was so pissed off when I saw the little guy out in the front yard with the gate to the driveway wide open. Naturally, my guys want to say hello and this brings the neighbor yorkie out of his yard and onto the street, like it or not. There are NO sidewalks in this neighborhood. I can't imagine what the owners were thinking letting this guy loose when there are plenty of predators and other dogs about (a block from here we saw a fox crossing the street and were very nervous just walking our guys with the rabies we have in our county). This guy was in the 6-8 lb range, but how could their owners let this little one in the yard loose with traffic and predators around? I rang the bell a couple times with no response, finally we left and he went back to his yard, but I just dont get how people can take such risks with their little guys. A car could have easily killed this little one. I tried to close the gate to the driveway, but it was not really meant to be closed. We just had to leave and not look back so he would not follow us  |
OMG:eek: I sure hope the lil guy is ok. Maybe they didn't know the gate was open. We have a yard with chainlink fence and I still look out every minute or so to check on my babies! Some people:( they just don't think about what could happen to these little ones and so fast too!!!!!!!!! |
Geez thats so sad. I hope the lil guy was okay. I couldnt imagine letting Juicy roam around without me there protecting her. |
Wow, that really is so messed up. I just don't understand how an owner of any kind of pet could do that. Especially, to a dog so tiny. =[ |
I just don't understand why people let their dogs roam the streets:confused::confused: We one time found a beagle mix walking up and down in our subdivision and we live really close to a major highway. The dog was friendly, so I got some treats and coaxed her towards me as I saw she had a collar with tags. She came right to me, gave me kisses as I read her tag. The tag didn't have a phone number, but the owners lived up the road. I know if my dog was roaming the streets, I would want someone to get them and bring them to me, so I picked her up and walked her to her house. I knocked on the door and the lady was like "Yea I let her out. She's fine." and didn't even say thank you or anything for being concerned for her dog's well being. There is also another large black furry dog... looks like an akita or a samoyed with black hair... she's a sweet dog, but is HUGE. She was out walking the streets at night. Hubby stayed outside with her and I went inside to call animal control because this dog had no tags or anything. Her owner came out like 10 minutes later and said that she's fine.:confused: I get paranoid if I'm on the deck and the boys are playing in our FENCED yard, let alone letting them walk the streets alone!!! |
The reason is because people are just darn ignorant. |
I don't understand what they are thinking either. I actually tried to at least close the gate, but it had posts in the ground and looked like it really was left open all the time. On this particular street, I have encountered a black lab walking around free also, in the middle of the street so that when a car was driving by the guy had to honk to get the dog to move. Its almost like they think they live in the middle of the country where there are no cars, but in this neighborhood, kids sometimes are driving too fast and an accident is waiting to happen with no sidewalks either. I actually considered scooping him up, taking him home and returning him later. But then you start thinking about the owners accusing you of dog napping. I suppose I could have called animal control as well, but that is really not the way to stay on good terms with your neighbors. What I have decided to do is to keep ringing the bell when we walk that way until we catch the owners, and at least try and talk them into using a leash if they insist on letting the little one stay outside while they are away. |
more irresponsible dog owners |
I do n ot understand that either? A beutiful dog left alone , in danger  Anyone could have come along and taken him, he could of become anther statistc :( Does not make any sense whatsoever! |

Good news I went walking that way again, and found the yorkie in good health barking at me and my crew! There was another one with him, and a miniature poodle, too. They were actually in the yard adjacent to where I saw the little one last time. I let my guys hang our and sniff and bark at these dogs for a while until the owner came out to see what the commotion was about. They I told her what I saw last week and she explained there was a hole in their fence, and that was how the little one escaped into the neighbor's where I saw him last time. She told me that hole was repaired, but I suspect any good yorkie given enough time will dig below a chain link fence if left unattended, which this guy apparently was. What are you going to do? She claimed to be the owner of both yorkies, but I did not see the other one around on my previous walks in that neighborhood. Strange, but maybe she got the message, I advised her that you cannot be too careful with your little dogs with the predators and cars around. We'll see. You don't need to pass a "common sense" test to own a dog, unfortunately. |
