good questions to ask a breeder Hi everyone , I am looking for my 2nd Yorkie , The first time around I really had no Idea what to ask the breeder. This time I have some Idea but would really love some in-put from someone else. Thanks!! |
Some of the things I would ask are if the parents have been tested for Liver Shunt. You also want to know who their vet is and ask for a phone number so that you can call them as a reference. Ask what shots and medical care the puppies receive before leaving the breeder's home. What health gaurentee is provided? How have the puppies been socialized? Asking too many questions is better than not enough. I ran into a lot of breeders that acted irritated by my many questions on the puppies. As soon as they began to not answer some of my questions or act like my questions were stupid, I knew I no longer wanted to deal with that breeder. |
I would make sure you write down your questions. I had a ton of questions for Tucker's breeder, but then forgot them once I talked to her. Luckily, she was available for me to get back to her, but I felt unprepared. Good luck! |
the site www.buyingapuppy.com has a great list of questions to ask, and lots of other good info. |
Also be prepared to answer the breeder's questions to you . A reputable breeder will never let you have one of his pups if he or she is not sure of you. I let peoples ask me all the questions they want but I allow myself to ask them questions about them . It only go both ways . |
That's a great link! I also agree with Olivier about the breeder asking you questions. I they don't that would be a HUGE red flag! |
