puppy faces question! hey everyone! from several posts i've read it talks about the diff types of puppy faces some ive seen are teddy bear, ash, baby doll what does this all mean? if someone can post pics that'd help me so much because i am a visual learner thanks! |
4 Attachment(s) My Pixie has what I call the baby doll face. I know the standard doesn't call for this face but I love it. Pixie is the one without the bow in group pics. |

I was thinking the same thing, they look alike to me too! |
The babydoll's have a shorter muzzle and more petite facial features. I have one that would be considered baby doll--I love the look, the breeder I got her from says that she is the prettiest yorkie she's ever had. |

thanks!!!! now to figure out what teddybear face is :P what face is my mickey considered as? |
The standard really doesn't say, what the preferred nose length is, it just says that the "muzzle not too long", Breeders are left to their own preferences. The YTCA prohibits breeders from using these the terms, doll face, teddy bear, because they really have no meaning. Like the term teacup has no specific meaning, and I would not choose a dog from a breeder who uses these words. Look to the parents as the best indication of what the adult puppy will look like. Most all puppies have small noses. I know I prefer a nose on the short side, but I wouldn't want it flat like some breeds, but just small. Yorkshire Terrier Club of America |
Pixie has bigger, rounder eyes and a shorter nose and a little wider face. In person you can really see the difference. Roxie and Pixie are related and Roxie(the one in the last picture in the middle) has smaller eyes and a little longer nose. |
I don't know what they call it but it's all just cuteness to me!! :happyboun:happyboun:happyboun |
baby doll face features a rounded forehead, round and big eyes, and shorter nose. its really just a preference for pet yorkie owners, nothing related to stardards:aimeeyork |
1 Attachment(s) I don't know what you will call my lil girl face, but I call it a face I love to snuggle with. But what would you call it. |
oh no, the type of face won't determine my next yorkie! as long as i think they're cute its all good :) i was just confuesd because i often read those terms here and there on the forum and i wanted to know what they meant :) |

The Yorkie's specific face is determined by a few things First is the shape of the face itself and the length of the muzzle Some Yorkies have more of a pushed in face .... what some people call "babydoll" The next thing is the kind of coat and the kind of hair growth they have on and around their faces You can see how much this determines the shape of your pups face when they have a bath it always cracks me up because wet they look so different and last is from you .... and it's the kind of cut you give your Yorkie The teddy cut or the long hair cut or the puppy cut all this will determine what kind of face you have in your puppy |
I love that all yorkies have different faces and looks. Katy Lou has a pretty face (I'm biased) with big eyes and Sophie Mae has what you could call a "Baby Doll" face with a short muzzle and a rounded forehead. I love both their looks and I appreciate that they look different from each other. I haven't seen a yorkie on this site that was not adorable to me.:) |
I don't know of any set definition for Teddy bear or baby doll. I know sometimes I just "think" teddy bear when I see a face. I guess it is about the ear size and set. Also bigger, round eyes and a shorter muzzle. I always sort of thought of Zoeybear as a teddy bear face. I love all the faces. |
