When is a good time to bring in another furbaby? Hi all! Minnie is 7 months old now & she's been with us for a month and a half. We are still working on potty training (difficult when no one is home during the day!). I want to get her a friend sometime in the future, but am concerned about timing. My opinion is that we should hold off until she is potty trained, giving her the best chance for success (less stress...). What are your thoughts on the matter? |
Sometimes it is easier to do it all at once. I got 3 puppies with in 2 years and it seemed like I was always potty training. If I were to do it again I would get 2 together and train all at once. So maybe now is a good time. You may also be able to find a puppy close in age. |
Anytime - I am such a fan of having 2, so I may be a little biased. I am sure better advice will be coming from others! :D |

Bonding to their humans, separation anxiety later on and poor socialization can be problems if you get two puppies too close in age. You have to work very hard to prevent this by having two separate crates, individual socialization/training, etc. It's much easier to space them at least a year apart or whenever puppy #1 is potty trained and well socialized.
