My Romeo is constipated My Romeo has suffered two times from constipation. I have been relieving him of it by holding his little bottom under warm, running water, but I don't want to just fix the symptom I want to stop the constipation all together. Has anyone else experienced this with their little one? |
I read that feeding them pumpkin? helps and so does nutrical. Is he eating a good quality puppy food? I ask b/c you said you want to fix the constipation. Fixing it means figuring out what he is eating that is causing it. If his food is good...then he might be eating paper, carpet or some other crud that stops him up some? try giving him carrotts as snacks. good fiber :D |
He won't eat carrots. The food that I give him is Wellness Puppy formula. This is a human grade dog food with no animal by-products, preservatives, or artificial flavors or colors. I've caught him a couple of times chewing on rolls of tissue. |
Well it sounds like the problem isn't from his food but the tissue might upset his tummy. shelby gets that way...it's hard to get things out of her mouth! she gets a piece of cat fur and when I try to get it from her she runs as fast as she can and swallows it. makes me crazy. will he eat apple pieces? I read we can feed them that? It just sounds like something that has some fiber in it might help. good luck. (to both of us) |
Wellness is a good food. Maybe can be the treats he is getting. Make sure he is drinking plenty. Try giving him pumpkin or mineral oil. Here is the info on how much. Metamucil: Used for constipation. For small dogs use 1Ú2 a teaspoon a couple times a day, and for large dogs use up to 2 teaspoons twice a day. Mineral Oil: Used for constipation and ear mite relief. Give your canine buddy up to 4 tablespoons a day for constipation. To combat ear mites, once a day heat some oil until itŐs warm to the touch. Then put a couple of drops in the ear canal. Repeat for at least one month. Olive oil mixed with garlic can also be used as an ear mite remedy. Crush a few garlic cloves and let them soak in olive oil overnight. Then, remove the garlic, heat the oil until itŐs warm to the touch and, as with the mineral oil, place a couple drops in your dogŐs ear canal. Repeat about every other day or so, for at least one month. Oat bran and Canned Pumpkin: Also for constipation relief. Add a teaspoon or two of either to your dogs food everyday until bowel movements are regular again. I just read that you caught him chewing on paper, so that can be the reason. I hope he start feeling better soon. __________________ |
They are extremely fast aren't they. I have the hardest time as well trying to get things out of Romeo's mouth. He will close his little mouth and start running as fast as he can to wherever he thinks I won't follow and swallow. How in the world can we stop that? :D |
Feed him a little canned pumpkin. should do the trick. |
I'd try cooked carrots or green beans. Sabrina loves them. I also give her peanutbutter as a treat and that has helped. |
