Is Country Junction a store that sells many different breed dogs? |
I think it's good that you've done your research and know of what health problems could arise. As with any breed there is always something that could pop up but in most cases don't. My Roxie is almost 2 and although she was sick with some respitory illness in the beginning she's been healthy as a horse since. I'm so glad I have her and the experience of having her is so hard to describe for me. The amount of love and joy these little dogs is unbelievable to me. Sometimes when we're playing and snuggling I can't believe how strong of a bond I have with her. I've had other dogs that I loved dearly but this is indescribable. I think you should just relax and enjoy the ride of owning a Yorkie puppy. |
I responded to your post before I read the entire thing. Your right to be concerned if your rescuing a yorkie from certain situations. In those cases your right to be of concern. Even in the best circumstances you never know what might pop up with any animal. Others here will have good advice or info for you here. I do know that I got Roxie from a pet store before I knew that this is a bad idea. I learned fast though. Roxie had already started getting sick when I brought her home and the 2nd day of having her was rushing her the vet to be checked out. She had a bad respitory illness and it took a few months to get her completely over it. I wouldn't take her back to the puppy store for nothing. But I should have made them pay the vet bills and reimburse me at least half of what she cost us. On the flip side I can say she's very happy and healthy now and almost 2 years old. She's turned out to be the best dog I've ever had and even though it wasn't such a great start you can see from my last post that I never regret getting her. Good luck to you. |
I really think this place is a puppy mill too... There are a lot of stores that say that they "rescue" but really they are just taking their dogs that they can't use anymore and selling them cheap. PA is a huge mill state... in fact one of my dogs was bred from Lancaster and he was from an amish puppy mill. Just do your research on this place, get reviews online, and be careful. Ask a lot of questions. Why don't you check petfinder.com? Here's this little guy from Rescue Me Yorkie in PA. Adopt a Yorkshire Terrier Yorkie: Shiloh: Petfinder. There are a ton of yorkies in PA in a rescue. |
I did alot of reading and checking also. Most of the things I was reading about liver shunts, broken bones, surgeries, on and on and on....I bought Roxy from a woman who had one yorkie male and decided she didn't want a female. I went to her house and talked with her and met Roxy. It was love at first site. She was 4 lbs when I got her and at 5mts old seemed pretty shy. However, she rode home in my jacket and she has been there ever since. I just had her spayed to the tune of almost $400 and her shots. She jumped on the couch after I brought her home and slept. She recooped fantastic and fast. She handled her shots great and is full of Hell most of the time. I do have a tendency to watch over her more than any of my other dogs I have had. She is a wee one. The vet said she is in great health. I think most of the time what we read is the worst things not the best of things. Just take your lil one to the vet and have them checked out. Roxy is now 5lbs and thinks she's 500lbs! lol I think the smaller the dog the more problems you COULD have, not will have. Good luck and welcome!!! |
When I got my furbaby, I knew absolutely nothing about yorkies. I just picked this breed because I thought they were so cute and I instantly fell in love. I learned from my work not to buy any dog from a pet store or puppy mill. I'm so glad I came across this site when I did because I've learned so much more than I ever knew. I'm no expert that's for sure, but I'm much more aware of things that can happen at any given time. This site will be able to help you out so much! Don't be worried though! Having a dog in your life is one of the greatest things IMO. |
Good luck with bringing home your baby tomorrow. I'm sure you and your baby will be fine. I worry endlessly too. I fell in love with my baby:aimeeyork and she has been healthy. She is four months old, but no major health concerns yet... YT is a great place for new yorkie moms...;) |
My Yorkie is very healthy too, but she had an accident where she fell wrong and busted her knee last week. It cost me $3500 to have her leg fixed. I'm glad that you are being responsible and making sure that you will be financially capable of caring for your Yorkie before buying one. Just to ease your mind a little, the surgeon said her injury was NOT due to her small size or her breed. This injury happens to big dogs, small dogs, horses and my HUSBAND! Your best bet for finding a strong and healthy pup is to get one from a reputable breeder. Maybe you can even find one here on YT :) Good Luck! |
