Just want to introduce myself... Hi everyone! Russ is my name and on March 1, 2009, we will bring "Tyson" home @ which time he will be 12 weeks! We are so excited! Family and I have been wanting a new family "member" for the last two years and decided 6 months ago that a yorkie would be perfect for us. While doing all the reading that I could, happened to come across this site and I'm sure glad I did! Awesome tips and information! Already bookmarked! Almost got everything for the welcoming party. Great thing is, the kids don't know exactly when he'll be here so that's an extra surprise! First question for the forum, because I live in Michigan and the weather is quite cold now, should I go ahead and pad train first or should I try to push the outdoor thing from the jump? With the pads, is odor any problem even if it is still on the disposable pad? Which is better to use in conjunction with the crate? I work from home most of the time so I will have the necessary time to devote to start this puppy on the right track. You guys have some cuties and I look forward to sharing with the community! |
Hi and welcome to YT!!! Congrats on your furbaby...I am sure you are excited about bringing Tyson home!! I got KiKi last Feb and at 13 weeks she was only 1 lb...so we pad trained her. In the spring in summer and fall...she went outside..but now with the winter here....and she is only 3 lb and she goes on the pee pad...I guess you can do whatever is easiest for you. I use 2 pee pads a day..and I have never had a problem with odor...when she poops...I pick it up right away.. Good luck and be sure to post pictures!! |
Welcome & congrats! You will love this site!! It is great! Very informative! Glad to have you! |
Welcome and congratulations! You will be so happy with a Yorkie. I have 4 dogs, 3 yorkies and a pom. 2 are outside trained and 2 are pad trained and I can't get any of them to go both places. So if you want to have him outside trained and you are home enough you may want to start right away on the outside training. As far as the odor, I have no problem with any odor. |
Welcome As to your pad question, I use pads in the house all the time. We have had so much snow that the little ones will not go out unless the see grass! The pads do not leave an odor unless you leave them for more than one day without a change. The are very helpful, especially for training and winter. |
