any suggestions on climbers we got our new puppy on Friday, apparently he thinks he is spider dog and is climbing the sides of the xpen to escape. he also climbed over a baby gate, so the boy got through two layers of protection to get out. Honestly I don't know how he is doing it without hurting himself. he is landing on tile.:( I really like the xpen for day purposes because it gives him room to play, have a bed, toys, food, water, even his crate is in there so he has access to his "den". what can I put over the top, the pen is pretty big so I am not sure what to use. |
Wow, I never had this problem...LOL.. sorry not funny to you, but my boy could never get over his pen...:D |

the good thing is because no one knew he did this the two dog had access to one another without supervision, they have not gotten along since I brought home Harley but today they are actually playing together. |
Wow! Jaxon never climbed out of a pen, but he does like to get up on the back of the couch! Sorry I don't have any ideas for you! :wavey: Hugs-Kay & Jaxon |

Is this a tall pen? I had the metal one that had like 8 sides.. There was not way my boy could jump over it or climb it..:D |
My little Holly is a Houdini of a climber. When she was little, I found two things that worked. A small ex-pen with smooth plastic sides (nothing to get a grip on) or one with a lid. Here are links to both varieties: Small Pet Playpen with Mat/Cover Use a shower curtain liner for the bottom so you don't have to buy the extra canvas. Teacup Yorkie Dogs » Play pens: a way to contain your yorkie or Yorkshire terrier Scroll down to see the brown and white playpen. Holly could not escape this, it was barely big enough. Since she has outgrown the need I use two of the walls as makeshift gates to keep her from getting through the railing in the living room. And a third type I just found Google plastic playpen then click on images for lots of ideas, just look for something that won't allow a foot hold. Good luck! |
Exactly what she said... I had the same problem with my little one! It was crazy! After they do it once, they do it over and over again....Gracie2006 had some great ideas. What I ended up doing was hanging towels or sheets over it...something thick so they can't climb up it...however, then you can't see them. A shower curtain sounds like a great idea. If you don't mind going out and buying another gate, they do have gates that are slanted at the top so that they can't get out. Or you could get an actual crate where it's gated on all 4 sides. It's up to you. You might try giving him a Kong or some special treat that he ONLY gets when he is in his pen. That's what I heard you are supposed to do when you are working on separation anxiety. So that way, he'll look forward to going into his play pen because then he gets his favorite treat! I used to fill a small Kong with peanut butter and freeze it...she would go crazy with it for hours!! Another idea: you can sit there for the first couple times you put him in it, and have a water bottle at your reach. If you're on the couch or whatever, and see him trying to climb the sides, you can squirt him with the water. We do that for Lola's barking and it works wonders. Even if it makes you sad to do it, they DO need training, and WANT it. They forget you squirted them in 2 minutes and love you just the same! Those are just some suggestions....Good luck! I had the same problem!! Those little rascals! :aimeeyork |
Koda was the exact same way! Not fun! lol! I gave him a whole room in the end. |
