No smooching the pooch I am so sad! I don't know how I didn't notice this before, but Thor hates to be kissed. The smooching sound scares him. I gave him a bath the other day and I wanted to nuzzle his fur, but he wiggled away from me and ran into his crate! He is normally really affectionate and loves to be petted, but I don't know how I'm going to keep from kissing him. :( |
Try not to make the smooching sound , LOL . Suzi is a big time kisser and has not ever been scared of affection... Perhaps let Thor be the one to come to you and do the kissing first. :thumbup: |
ooohhh!! I know how you feel and I love kissing my boy. He might get used to it over time. I guess you have to give him quite kisses for now. :p |
Jerome is scared of smoochie sounds too and he runs away from me!:( so I try not to make to much noise with my mouth when kissing him.:) |

When we first brought Smokey home, he was petrified! I have always with all of my dogs held their head and kissed them on the head. I tried to do that with Smokey and he jumped off the bed, tail tucked, and dove under the bed shaking like crazy. It took me about 30 to 45 minutes to coax him back out and when he did come out, he wanted NOTHING to do with me. I finally caught him and cuddled him until he stopped shaking. I started working with him and little by little his episodes lessened. Now when I do that, he'll either jump up and kiss me back or he puts his butt in the air, wiggles his tail, and barks at me. |
Okay, that gives me some hope! It really surprised me because Thor generally sticks to me like glue. Even if I am bathing him or brushing his teeth, both of which he HATES, he'll still want to sit on my lap. But a kiss, no siree. I also realized that whenever I look at him I usually make a little smooch noise, just to say, "hey, sweetie." I realize now that he startles a little bit every time I do it. I must have just started to smooch him when he's on my lap. |
Maybe try rewarding him when he doesn't react. |
Yup...it's the smooching sound. Gucci barks at me when i throw kisses. He doesn't bark bark but like a muffled bark. I can't explain. Maybe I should shoot a video of this...hmmm.... |

Roxie's ok with the kissing, but sometimes I do the z-burp where you blow on them and she goes nuts. She didn't like it at first but now she knows it's just playfulness and reacts in a playful way. Her little body just starts going 100 miles an hour when I do that to her! But during quiet cuddle time it's just light kisses and gentle petting. I love the look on her face and how it's so obvious the love goes both ways. Talk about unconditional love!! :) |
I don't know why But I think there is something about the kissing sound that dogs don't like I have had a few dogs who don't like it also .... dogs have no clue about our "kissing" as affection and kissing them will sometimes be taken as you going to bite them |
How cute is that tread! Lol... Wait until the dog is sleeping.... And go for it!!!! I got tom pouce when he was 6 months, and he use to back off from my kisses too... He his now 1 year old and love it. Don't gave up.. He'll get use to it. |
Awww I would hate it if Callie didnt like to be kissed. I say give me a kiss and she will or if I pucker my lips and make the sound she will kiss me and I love it. If I kiss the top of her head she has to kiss me back or she gets mad. |
