new to site looking for Yorkie to adopt looking for help hello there I am new to the message boards I came here cuz I am interested in adopting a Yorkie in about a year from now, I have been trying to hunt down Yorkie Rescues near my area but have not had much luck...do any of you know of rescues near Columbia, Missouri or possibly any breeders? I am going to go and read some books on Yorkies before I go out shopping....I also want to look at adopting a Prembroke Corgi as well, hopefully if the two are close to the same age when i get them they will become close buds. I totally plan to take my time and do as much research as I can on the the two before bring either one home. But any helpful advise from you all I am sure would be super helpful to me as well Thanks! oh and my name is Sarah by the way! |

Hello and welcome!! :welcome4: United Yorkie Rescue & Yorkshire Terrier National Rescue Inc. are two rescue groups you should keep an eye out for yorkies. You can also search PetFinder for your area. Good luck!! ;) |

Hello and welcome! You will find lots of helpful info here. I joined YT before Fancy, my yorkie adopted me;) and I am so glad I did. I found lots of advice and I'm sure you will too:wavey: |
Pet adoption: Want a dog or cat? Adopt a pet on Petfinder is great! You can look up all the available listed dogs in you area. Most rescues/animal shelters have a petfinder page! |
Good Luck to you. I know you will find a great furbaby... |
Hi and Welcome to YT Sarah!! The best thing you can do before you run out and purchase a yorkie or any dog for that matter is RESEARCH!! Make sure you understand that Yorkies are high maintenance dogs...Can be very demanding...Will attatch itself to you at the hip....can be difficult at times...needs to be brushed every single day...also needs it's teeth brushed daily....and can and will be the best thing you ever did....so long as you understand all of that!!! Good luck in your search...and I applaud you for looking to rescues...instead of going after a pup!!! How wonderful of you... Please keep us updated ....while you search...and when you find your future baby!!! |
Hello, fellow Missourian!!! Yorkies Rule!!! Lots of books on the subject - I liked Yorkies for Dummies (and Housetraining for Dummies). I have a few other books on Yorkies - but after these two - they just repeat themselves. I keep Bailey in a puppy cut so I don't have to brush her (yay!) - not to mention, she's just adorable in the cut!! She was potty trained in two months and reliable in 4 mos. She doesn't bark and she's a cuddler!!! Good luck!! :) PS - I vote Yorkie!! |
welcome to yt...glad to have you here! have you check out petfinders.com |

So it could be highly possible for a year to turn into two years from now but as long as I am prepared as need be for the babies I will be happy then. Which is why I want to start reading up as early as possible I already looked ahead and my library has a lovely stock on books on both Yorkies and Corgis so I plan to start reading up on those books ASAP! Thanks again for the warm welcome and helpfulness everyone, I am sure I will luck out in finding a new baby soon! or at least as soon as I am ready |
Welcome to YT . |
I am thinking petfinder is probably going to be the best place for me to find a new lil one I just saw the most adorable lil Yorkie on there but I need to make myself hold off on getting one until I feel ready and I don't think i am going to feel all to ready for it until I have done some research on them but my luck of find a lil one off of there certainly seems to be good. |
