Oven Doors
 
Does anyone have any helpful hints or training tools that they have used to keep your babies away from the oven door when opening?

Macy has never jumped up yet and I am always saying hot or stay away- but one of my biggest fears is that she will put her paws up on the hot door just to see whats up when my kids open the door to take out a pizza or something!

Any helpful tips.....

I don't have tips . Venus have a thing for the dishwasher , everytime I open it she is always there to look if the dishes are really clean , she is so funny .

One of the first things I taught Teddy upon entering our
home was the word "off". When I say that word he sits
automatically and if he has anything in his mouth he drops
it. I had a cat jump from the floor up onto our hot range
top and the result was horrible so I found it important to
teach Teddy a few words that he would respond to no matter
what the circumstance.

Oh...I never thought about a cat doing that! How terrible. I think "off" is a good behavior to train. Great tip. Thanks.

I used to worry about Esme and the oven. Luckily though, she backs off whenever I open the door. I think she feels the heat and doesn't like it.

I never though of that. I can say that Gucci also barks at the oven door. I agreed the "off" word is a good one to teach our pups.

I accidently taught our kitty the word HOT with a green bean. I gave it to hear and said hot and she put it in her mouth anyway and then spit it out. Now when i say hot she touches it lightly with her paw til it's cool enough to eat. The same seems to be working with the dog. When I get ready to open the oven I say get back Hot. He stuck his face close once and that's all it took. Now when I say get back Hot he backs away.

Thanks, tonight she sat down and just looked at me as I kept saying HOT I thought for sure she was going to put her paws up there. She would sit under the door if I let her, I hate to crate her when I am cooking because she would spend a lot of her weekend in there. I hope she gets it soon!

this is a fear that i have had for a long time now. the oven door. Ahia has not yet tried to look in side the oven but i fear some day she might try it. she puts her paws on the dishwasher and i am in the process of teaching her not to do that because of the oven. so far so good. i surely hope this doesn't happen to any of the pets.
