Bows for Boys? Since I am in serious talks with a breeder about FINALLY purchasing my baby boy... and at a DECENT price... I had a question about bows. I am planning on the "puppy cut" for a while of course, but when my little boy's hair gets long do you think it's acceptable to pull it back from his eyes with a bow? Or is that too girly? Should I stick with something more plain? I'm sure many would say this is a personal choice, but I was just wanting some feedback. Does anyone here put bows on their boys? |
Rocco had a top knot and bow for years...I would buy 'boy colors'. I love orange, cobalt blue, black and red bows. I finally cut his top knot about 6 months ago. I should add he didn't always wear bows, in the picture on the left (my icon) he has a clear hair band, |

I think boys are adorable with bows. You can find some very manly ones which helps make it not seem so girly. Here are some adorable boy bows: M'Lady's Dog Bows - Boy Bows Page 1 |
I was actually thinking about using the bows from Build-A-Bear. Would they work if I decide to go that way? I know my mom and dad are going to call him girly boy if I decide to go with bows, but I guess I'll get over it! lol |
I think he'd look fine with bows just as long as their "boy" colors. If they help to keep the hair out of their eyes, then who cares what people say! They look cute either way! |
Yes, I keep my little boy's bangs up in a bow so his hair does not lay on his eyes and he looks so much cuter with a bow. I have premade ones and ones that I make myself. Color is what I think looks good on him, even pink or a rosey color. He loves to look cute!:rose::rose: |
Joey had the puppy cut for a while, but I fell in love with the topknot, and wished I had grown it out from the beginning. It seems like their hair grows so fast as a puppy. A topknot is proper for a male or female yorkie, and for every day use, I just use a band with a tiny clip. Ladymom makes boys for boys with a masculine theme. Here are some of her boy bows. I think bows for boys are okay.... I'd just stay away from the pinks and purples. |

With my boy also the name of Max, I pull his hair up as I do the girls, however I don't always use a bow but I have and nothing wrong with it at all. I have all males in my home (hubby, 3 sons) who say ahh don't do that to Max but hey he is a babydoll no matter and a bow don't change nothing. I say put that bow right on that little boy. ;) |
2 Attachment(s) Yes, Bubba wears bows - here's a couple pix of him. We love M'Lady's Bows too! One of our favorites has a red race car on it - but I guess I somehow don't have a picture of him in that! |
Just realized this probably should have gone under "Grooming." Powers that be... feel free to move it! ;) Thanks to all those who showed me their "Bow"riffic Boys! Makes me happy :) |
people assumed he was a girl! i got sick of explaining it. plus .. my BF doesn't like bows. we get the puppy cut for my lil man. |

Both of my boys are in full coat and wear bows.....but not pink or purple. Everyone assumes they are girls and I don't correct them. My husband and boys have a fit, but I ignore them. |
rylie has a topknot and wears bows. I don't put pink bows in his hair and no purple... Yet anyway. LOL I think they look so pretty/handsome with a topknot and bow. If people ask why my boy wears a bow I just tell them it is written in the yorkie breed standard to have a topknot and bow. |

Lol.....That is too funny! |
When Gucci's hair was long I'd take a simple tiny black rubber band to tie his hair on top away from his face. But he was constantly mistaken for a girl. When I'd say "he" people's usual response would be "so why you tie up his hair like a girl" Did they expect me to leave the dog blind by his hair. Anyway, I keep him with a puppy cut now :) |
I love the top knot with bow look! My Jeter has longer silky hair and I keep his hair in a top knot. He has bows that are boy colors. I think he looks so cute with his hair done up though my husband and boy's like to call him a sissy boy:rolleyes: Jeter on the other hand likes to look pretty and will proudly prance around showing off his hair when his bow's are in:p Axl's hair is more of the cottony kind and I don't keep his hair long for bows, if his hair was silky and easy to care for as Jeter's and Yumi's then i would put his up in bows too. |
Joey has a pink and lavender bow with a little teddy bear on it; he wears it with his pink and lavender tank shirt that says "only child." If people have a problem with his clothes and their colors, they indeed have a problem. I'm more concerned with the "time" of year he wears these colors. They seem more appropriate in the Spring, than in the Fall. :D |
2 Attachment(s) Found a pic of Gucci with a top knot. Lord he looked so handsome....but boy was it alot of work! I too got alot of the "sissy" dog remarks  http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...CN3874-680.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...i/DSCF0845.jpg |
Thank you! All of your babies are beautiful. I Think I may actually try out the topknot for a while. And I'll be loving my baby even if he is a "sissy" dog! ;) |
Rather than pull Puddie's hair in a regular topknot, he wears it further back, towards the back of his skull (more than the middle of it). He doesn't usually wear a bow ... we call it his Ninja Knot ;):D . It *sounds* a little more manly, at least  |
I don't think Piper would go for a bow, but I'd like to try a bow time for him. |
