Amish Most of us know that the amish have puppymills. Well while i was searching for yorkie care this link was on the side of one of the search pages and just thought i would share an Amish website that sells puppies. http://www.amishpuppies.com/ |
Oh my... I find your statement kind of... well ......wrong :( I live right smack dab in the middle of tons of Amish and I hate to say but just because your Amish doesn't mean you sell puppies.Do some Amish sell puppies...yes and some under good and some under bad circumstances. Your forgetting that many people think Mennonites are Amish and bulk them together. I can tell you right now I have seen many more Mennonite Mills then Amish Mills. I also can tell you NO Amish person who is truly Amish would even have a website much less their Picture on it. It's preposterous(spelling) Oh, and I can't even see the website... printing is to small and I can only read the big headline stuff |
i can see the printing well. i did not mean to all amish people. and did not mean any harm by it. i just found it amusing that it was a website of an amish breeder. |
HMMMMMM It keeps looking like tiny ants when I click on it  If it were a true Amish......you wouldn't see it. It would not be on the computer and definately not with pictures with the man included ..NONONO. Maybe possibly some kind of broker in the Amish, Menonite area that buys from them and resells..... I need to be able to see the stupid thing :( |
can you just type it into your address bar. |
I have a problem with this site. From my understanding, Amish don't believe in any sort of technology- they live their lives in a basic way, shunning most forms of technology. I have little faith in the values of a breeder or group of breeders that will abandon their beliefs for the sake of a sale. Second, in the first paragraph of the website, there is a statement on how the Amish are known for how well they treat their animals. The only things I've heard about an Amish group or family's treatment of animals have been that they are mistreated and view their animals as property. (I realize that this doesn't necessarily mean all Amish abuse or mistreat their animals, but unfortunately the only things I've heard have been negative.) I didn't look further into the site than the first page becuase of the two points I just made. For those two reasons alone I would have no faith in the health or treatment of the animal I purchased from that website, and would have little or no faith in the people selling the animals. |
No matter if I click on your link or type it in myself.. it comes up teeny tiny and I can in no way read it. Can everybody else see it full sized or is anybody else getting the teeny tiny version? |

Very good point- I didn't even think about this. |
I hope everyone understands my point and I am not looking to argue, just that living right in the middle of it all I know things for fact and not just what TV portrays or what I hear from the grapevine. It's like saying Indian people are this way or African American people are that way.... and Oh yeah Jewish people are like this...Amish people are just like everybody else. Some good some bad and some true to religion and some not so much. Sometimes I get a good laugh because this is a touristy area in places and if someone puts words like Amish or Amish Country in a roadside stand with a quilt or piece of furniture or something they can ask more for it because the general belief that it somehow makes it folksy and well made. |
Amish sales It's a gimmick. The breeders are hoping people will believe the hype, and just buy. Their yorkie is listed at 950, or there abouts. They have all types of puppies listed with price. I bought my yorkie from a site that had religious theme, thinking she would have to be honest. Wake up woman! I love my yorkie, but the breeder miss led me. And this is my first post. Zoe is 7 months and weighs 4 1/4 pounds. Doesn't like innova or anything else. I've been reading your all's posts and love this site. Can't get anything else done. donnaz |
bad bad bad Puppy mills "they are just so cruel" :( dianne and prudence :( |
I suppose I don't understand why it is not allowed to "view" any puppy ahead of time, but rather a chosen meeting location. Are non amish people not allowed on the property? I did go so far as to look at a couple of those sweet puppy faces and read a lot on that site that left me with more questions than the desire to open a checkbook. But I'm not one to judge, just hope it's a good place for those babies to be until find their forever homes. Jeni |
I don't know about the Amish, but I doubt my breeder wanted me to see her setup. Also, they don't have to show parents! |
LOL... Yes Amish will let non -Amish on there property. I still can't read it but from previous post I'm thinking maybe it says something about calling ahead or possibly they meet you with the puppy. I'm thinking this would be because they don't have an Amish farm!!!! LOL even funnier........Amish would have to meet you in a horse and buggy because NO cars . They will do use transport service but I doubt it with a puppy. I have yet to see ANY Amish puppy sellers who didn't let you come to their house. Yes I have seen where they make you wait outside the barn while they bring the pups out, but I have also been invited inside to see the new pups and there they were nursing off Mommy in a box in the middle of the livingroom. By the way...LOL... I'm not a puppy weirdo, just I used to be into rescue and meeting about the mills and stuff like that. I pretty much do rescue work part time now instead of full force. I'm not a fanatic and believe people have the right to breed as long as they do it humanely and correctly. |

I did not try to go on the site but thought you might be interested in a little story about my area. We aren't the Bible Belt, but I was raised in a strick religious atmosphere. Well, our area published a Christian Yellow pages directory and I can't tell how many times my mom was cheated by the work solicited from this directory. People will use any trick in the book to make money, it isn't limited to one group of people but I just hate to hear about animal being subject to such tactics because they are so defenseless. |
Has anyone been into an amish barn where they breed the dogs? and do they ever get inspected by the authorities? :( dianne and prudence :( |
Yes to the barn and yes and no to the inspections. USDA inspections are done to USDA affiliated breeders. There is also animal inspectors but they are only required to go to licensed kennels. unlicensed kennels get no inspectors. You are only required kennnel license if you sell or have over a certiain amount of dogs. I have seen PILES of dogs in cages and stalls and also just the type where they only are small breeders with just a few dogs who get treated just like regular farm type animals . There's clean hay and clean food and maybe 2 females and a male who they breed once a year. |
In Wheaton, MO there are dog auctions most weeks where millers come and buy/sell their canine breeding stock. They will sell and or buy ANYthing that is not dead or near dead. A female ready to drop a litter of pups bring premium prices. Last summer/fall there was an auction held in a high school auditorium in Ohio. Same set-up. Before security threw a person off the property (since they rented it it was considered as private property even though tax dollars pay for the schools). There were a minimum of 20 carriages in the parking lot with the horses tied on the other side of the lot No water was evident. Anyhow, as the auction got underway, in pulled trailers DRIVEN by hired drivers who loaded the dogs in crates in the un-air-conditioned trailers/vans. Yes, there certainly are MANY Amish millers who hire non-Amish to assist them in their dirty work by using the machinery they say they do not use. Are all Amish that way? NO! Some don't breed dogs!!! Now, can I prove this happened? No, unfortunately, my computer crashed and I lost EVERY single file on it..Would I swear it is the truth? You bet your a** I would. If you drive to Lancaster Co, PA and take a turn down a nicely kept dirt to a clean white farm house, you might find a dog breeder. Dirt roads and clean, white houses seem to be their trademark. Now, ask to see where the puppies and parents are kept. NOT GONNA HAppen!! You are really lucky if you have or plan to get a puppy that is healthy from such people. This, of course, is my opinion. It does not reflect the opinion of the adm or any other member on the forum. |
yes as i had said before Maybe not all Amish are millers but as whispersmom2 said you will not get to see where their dogs are kept. Also as to the post where it says Amish are like everyone else i truly do like believe that. I seen a show Oprah did on the Amish and I for one do not live like they do. |
Ok ... I give up ... all Amish breed puppies and are strange and don't let people in there houses. It must be true because it was on Oprah television  Oh I forgot... and all pupymills are Amish and Dog auctions are attended by only Amish. Only Amish have bad puppies and bad practices and only Amish use brokers who make websites and lookie there it's an Amish man driving that Big Rig full of pups Hmmmmm did I forget anything else that might be twisted out of reason. Let me go knock on a few of my Amish neighbors doors and tell them they aren't supposed to be asking me in and while I'm at it I better tell them to hurry up and open a puppymill because they aren't conforming to a stereotype.Oh wait I'm looking out my window and there are the neighbors children playing with the family dog... I better telll them they aren't supposed to do that because they're Amish and should put that dog in a cage and starve it RIGHT AWAY OH NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Mexican couple just moved in down the lane............well we know how they are  |
Oh and for the twisted record... I did not say Amish were like everyone else.... What i said was they are like everyone else in the way that there are good and bad. :animal36 |
AND ONE MORE THING Would I recommend buying a dog from an Amish breeder ... Probably not unless I absolutely knew how that family worked things. MY Whole point was the stereotyping. I'm not stupid, I know how he mills work... it's just the twisted perception of it's an AMISH thing. I would be happy to show anybody quite a few non Amish mills in the area. As a matter of fact I can show you a sweet little country home with Mom pop and kids and a sweet dog who is picture perfect nursing a litter of puppies in an upscale rural neighborhood. What you didn't know was these dogs don't really live there. The were brought from a mill on Pick up day. That's a day assigned to have new owners come pick up there sweet little puppies. The set up is done constantly, especially on the high dollar dogs. A sweet house and cute fence with doggie yard and a couple adult dogs. All the pups ferried to this set up a day or two before to mak it look so SWEET |

AmishPuppies.com is designed to allow you to purchase a new puppy from the source known for not only their honesty and simple life style, but for how well they treat the animals in their care. The Amish depend on their animals, and their animals, (and you), can depend upon them. Their religious beliefs prohibit abuse and admonish them to be good stewards of all animals in their care. Does this mean that there will never be a problem? Of course not. These are live animals and no one can prevent all health or genetic issues. However, you can be assured that when an issue arises, it will be dealt with in an honest and trustworthy way, that is the mark of the Amish community. Read this warranty, read the user agreement, understand your responsibility for the animal while in your care. Together we can improve not just the life of your new puppy, but hopefully help lesser kennels begin to live up to the standard set by the Amish. Buy with confidence. Knowing that the animal you are buying is the exact animal in the picture, (because each animal is micro-chipped), that the genetics, the vaccination program, the care and condition are the standard in animal husbandry, and that any known issues are detailed on the web-site. You can know exactly what you are buying. |
Thanks, I wish I could see the whole site. How did you make it bigger from Tiny? |
okay never mind you seem not to be understanding i have said many of times i did not say all amish have puppy mills i am not stupid any one of any race or religion can have a puppy mill i was just thought it was wierd that the site said amish puppies because i have never seen that before. Whatever i do not believe there are any amish people on this sitebut there are alot of people of different races and amish people is not a race so i think you need to just SHUT UP!!! How are mexican people?? Do not start remarks like that because NO ONE has said all Amish are bad breeders so please just give it up. Thank You |

I have some nerve trying to not have people stereotyped. Even worse I have tried to be informative about a tiny bit of Amish puppy selling. :thumbdown Bad me. I promise to "Shut UP" and not try to explain my views anymore. I will only say something if it has already been verified by Oprah  |
you know what i did not say if it was on oprah then it is true or right. and i was telling you to shut you when you started referring to a race the amish is not a type of race. no one was sterotyping amish have puppymills caucasians have puppymills blacks have puppy mills and hispanics have puppymills the list goes on and on. i just found it rather odd that the site publically said amish puppies i had never before seen a sight that stated something like that. i am by far through i do not sterotype anyone i am now going to stop posting on my thread before i tell you something that gets me banned!!!!!!! |
TRUCE :) I know what you are saying about the site. :animal36 |
