I've noticed that most people say that they can't imagine caring for a dog smaller than what they currently have, be it 3 lbs or 13 lbs. I'm like that too. Thor is 4 lbs, and he is a very small dog! As I've said, he is still a vigorous, healthy guy.
I suspect this is natural bias towards what we know and love. We see our pets as perfect, so a dog half the size of ours sounds crazy. I guess I mean that it's natural to question why someone would want a really small dog, but they may have good reasons of their own. A lot of people say the tiny dogs are much harder to care for, and that may be true, but I haven't seen a lot of evidence here that backs that up. The teenies seem to be doing just fine.
I don't think that smaller yorkies are better, but I don't think they are worse either. There is no perfectly sized dog. And plenty of people sneer any dog smaller than a german shepard, so we yorkie owners have to stick together. Long live the toys! ;) |
