Spaying reduces health risks to your little one, like cancer, and also prevents puppies from being born unnecessarily - which could also be a health risk depending on the size of your baby and breed/size of the other dog and other factors. |
I adopted molly at 2 years old and had her spayed 3 months later. She attracted so much doggy attention when she was in heat, and i was worried she would get pregnant by a big dog. She sailed through the op and had no problems. there are so many dogs in rescues, i think it is being a resposible owner to have your dog spayed. |
There are good reasons to spay. The following article addresses, primarily, the health aspects. http://www.naiaonline.org/pdfs/LongT...uterInDogs.pdf |
Twinkle was spayed fairly recently at 6 months and her personality and behaviour hasnt changed at all - she's still her usual cheeky and full-of-mischief self:rolleyes: Of course, I wouldnt want her any other way :D xxx xxx |
By spaying her before she ever has a heat cycle, you will eliminate her chances of ever getting mammary cancer. If you wait until after she has gone into heat once, her risk climbs to 8%. After the second heat cycle, her risk of getting cancer is the same as an unspayed dog, about 25%. |
I had Lucy spayed at 6 1/2 months - and she was back to her usual self in 24 hours. Her behaviour has remained the same - just wonderful! |
I would have them spayed young when your vet find it age appropriate. I had Lola spayed about a month ago and she is 2.5 years old. It took her about 4 days to recover. |
