Collar vs Harness I've read a lot about Yorkies having weak tracheas. Is a collar dangerous? Should I use a harness exclusively when I walk Annie? |
They do have delicate tracheas and it is best not to pull on them with a collar. Harnesses are much better. Welcome to YorkieTalk :) |
Harness is the best option! |
:welcome4: :yorkietal WELCOME TO YOU AND ANNIE! :yorkietal :welcome4: For walking a good harness with nothing going around the neck is the best option. I prefer a Step-In to all types. |
A well fitting harness is the best way to go! Welcome to YT ! It is always best to be safe then sorry. :aimeeyork |
I definitely prefer harnesses. Chattiesmom (see previous post above) makes beautiful, comfortable harnesses! |
Definately a harness! :) And welcome to YT!!!! |
Welcome to YT....we use a collar and Teddi is just fine. I think it depends if your dog pulls a lot or not. |
We used a harness for Biggie when he was a pup. We switched to a collar when he was closer to 1 year old and weighing 7 pounds (he is now 2 and weighs just under 10lbs.). I was scared to switch to a collar, but we were training for the canine good citizen test and I had better control if he was wearing a collar. He quit pulling almost immediately after switching to a collar. I really don't recommend a collar if a dog pulls alot. I also don't recommend a collar if they don't weigh too much. |
Thank You Thanks to all who replied. I'll stick with the harness. Annie is the apple of our eye and I couldn't stand it if I brought her any pain. |
