What is the safest? I'd like opinions on what people use when they clean floors? I am concerned about the chemicals in some of these products and how potent they are to our furbutts.. I just mopped with pine- sol, putting Suzi in the bedroom, however, the smell is so strong even after opening windows:eek: What do others use while cleaning the bathroom? Is their anything that is safer then others out there? Thanks! |
it's horrible but we just use water and dish soap- i'm so paranoid- i guess my floors will just have to be a bit dirty :rolleyes: |
I like white vinegar in water, I put about 1 cup of white vinegar to 1 gallon of water and put this in a spray bottle. Vinegar is an acid so it cuts through oil, it's an odor neutralizer, and this means the molecules grab other odor molecules, and neutralizes them. At first you can smell the vinegar, but this goes away in minutes. It's especially nice for wood floors, but I use it on my tiles floors as well, and it leaves no residue, meaning no rinsing is necessary. Best of all it's safe. You can drink it without harm! |
I use vinegar/water. I mix mine 50/50 and occasionally add several drops of essential oil. |
I love my bissell steam mop. No chems only water. It dries really fast so I am not trying to keep my kids or pup off the floors for very long. |

pine sol is pretty bad for dogs, just the smell alone be careful, I would use vinegar and water. |

What type of floor are you cleaning? That could make a difference. I have hardwood floors and use 1 cup vinegar to 1 gallon of water. This might work on all types of floors but I've found it works best is you use a cellulose sponge as it picks up the dirt rather than spreading it around. Just rinse if frequently. |

We use spic and span for major messes or swiffer wet jet for quick clean up. I may have to try the vinegar stuff though... does it stink really bad? I hate the smell of vinegar! |
I use Vinegar and Water since I found out 2 years ago that Swiffer contains antifreeze chemicals - obviously that is BAD BAD for our babies!!!! |

I don't agree with that. My dogs used to vomit after licking their paws. After I read through the chemicals in Swiffer and in antifreeze (chemical composition) I found that it was not a good product to have around. I switched to Vinegar/water and the vomitting stopped. They still, periodically, throw up a little bile, but that is due to their acid reflux/short esophageal tube to stomach. I know everything we read or hear is not necessarily true - it takes everyone to do their own tests and research to feel good about their choices. I'm very happy with my decision! I'm glad your dogs don't react like mine did! Perhaps it could have been my dogs. |
I use vinegar and water for many types of cleaning and my steam mop on the floors:) and I don't even have a dog anymore:cry2: |
I want a Bissell Steam Mop...Do you really like it. Does it have alot of parts. I have this vaccum that has too many parts. I like to keep it simple... |
I wish mine was a Bissell and I think someone on here can tell you more about the Bissell. I have the Shark and I like the shape of the mop portion since it is in the shape of a triangle and gets in corners so nicely. Hope it holds up, so far I love it. |
Funny everything I see now has a mop in the shape of a rectangle :confused: Mine was an older model on sale! |

I have the Bissell steam mop and it has just a few parts. The washable pads and the water reservoir. So simple to use and I save so much money on mop solution. I highly recommend it. |
