Peed on my bed! Help! One of my sweet furgirls peed in my bed! It was on my side of our king sized bed, probably 12" down from the pillow. I'm not sure which one it was at all, and I have some theories as to who/why they would do this...any thoughts/advice would be helpful! A little background: Both dogs sleep with us in our bed at night, and during the day they are confined to our large bedroom and sleep on our bed most of the day. I have a rule they can only sleep on top, not under the covers. Our room/bed is their "safe place" where they go when they are tired of company or want quiet time. Emma is almost 3, and has had anxiety issues in the past. She can get growly with me from time to time, usually because she doesn't want me to move her/take something from her, and sometimes she thinks she owns my husband and wants to be near him without me moving her. We have worked with her on this and correct the growling behavior with a "corrective sit" (per the behaviorist). Milli is 2, and when we first brought her home we didn't let her sleep in our bed at first. As a puppy, she would pee near the foot of our bed occasionally, I think to let Emma know she was there or to establish dominance. That stopped, and she later earned her way to sleep in our bed. She is typically the "naughty" one and I found her poop under our coffee table tonight... We did get a new duvet cover/pillows yesterday, and I washed them and put them on the bed last night. Today was their first day home alone with the new bedding. We change sheets regularly though, but this is the first new duvet we have gotten since both the dogs have been with us. Could they just not like it/want it to smell like them? On top of all that, I am pregnant, due any day now with our first child. I have been having contractions most of the afternoon/evening, and resting most of the night. I wonder if it could have something to do with the baby coming? I also am up this late-I didn't come to bed as I usually do, but went to take a bath and my husband went to bed. I'm not sure when it happened, but I can tell you that changing sheets/comforters at 2 am isn't fun! Sorry this is so long, just wanted to get to the bottom of it, so any advice is appreciated. Thanks! |
It is probably both the new baby and the new bedding. Dogs are smart and they sense change like the new baby coming. As far as the bedding goes it could be as simple as marking territory, Clean it up as best you can and wash it a few times this way it smells more familiar. Good Luck |
Hey Suzy! I agree with the previous poster. If you've been having contractions, I'm SURE that they can sense that a change in coming....or even that you are uncomfortable, and it is making them nervous and/or unsure. And the new bedding......since it's new with no familiar scents on it.........well, could be marking it with their scent. BUT, I'm thinking it probably has more to do with the baby on the way. That could be a big adjustment they are going to have to get used to. Good luck, hope it is just a one time incident.......and keep us posted on that new baby! Any day now huh......woohoo! Sending hugs your way. |
Welcome to the club....mine did this to me the other night too......It's no fun. WHen I was pregnant my yorkie was Brandi (RIP), and she HATED my daughter in untero and never changed. From the time I was pregnant Brandi would not come to me any more or let me hold her. If I tried she would leap out of my arms clean across the room. She NEVER liked my daughter and never made peace with her though my daughter adored Brandi. I think it's the baby too. |
JMO...but ours did that when we bought a new comforter...I believe it is to smell like them....so now we sleep with their little blankets spread on top of our comforter...So far so good...we are getting a new duvet soon though....I will spread their blankets on top of that also...it puts their smell on the new stuff... :) |
It could be because they can sense you're different, more aggitated, impatient, uncomfortable, etc, etc. Gypsy was a little weird for the last few weeks of my pregnancy too. Everytime I've bought new bedding Gypsy has pee'd on it. It could be one or the other or both... Oh, and you're very brave getting and using new bedding when you're due any day... I put old sheets on our for my last month of my pregnancy incase my waters broke in the night. :p |
My Cody ( RIP ) was weird when I was pregnant. He started snapping at anyone who would come anywhere close to me. He also started pooping in the house. Who knows what makes these little ones do these things! As far as sleeping in bed, I let my Tucker hang out with us in bed but when we actually go to sleep, he has to go in his crate. He's also been known to pee in my bed from time to time and I have a down comforter that's not so easy to clean. Congrats on the baby! |

Thanks everyone-I wish it didn't have anything to do with the baby but I figured it probably did :( And Rose, you're right-they can sense the contractions and that I'm agitated and anxious and they don't like that vibe. I washed up the cover last night so it wouldn't discolor the fabric, and I will get to the other things ASAP (they are soaking) and hopefully get everything put back together...of course between contractions today! I am headed in to the dr. this morning so we'll see if they have any ideas... |
I personally do not believe that my sweet Milli or Emma Lou would ever do such a thing! You must have spilled water or just drooled a lot :p those sweet angel girls would never pee on your bed :p now the poop in the bathroom and under the coffee table- well.... i can't bail them out of that one! :D |
If it looks like pee, & smells like pee, it's probably pee! ;) And it was BEFORE I got into bed, so no drooling here! Have a talk with your "sweet girls"-neither one is fessing up! |

Oh Suzy, I'm sorry this happened to you! You see, we got Daisy when I was in my last trimester ((Thanks to hubby!--as a bday surprise)) so I was picking up poo, cleaning up pee, prying her mouth open constantly for garbage, etc... what a nightmare! Anyway, it all had NOTHING to do with me being pregnant b/c Daisy was still a baby herself. Daisy was 4 months old when Caroline was born so they're such close buddies right now! No jealously...nothing! ((What a great relief!)) Anyway, I think with your furbutts, they sense that there is a change of some sort, and they don't like it...It's okay though, don't fret! Daisy still does stuff out of spite ((If I'm gone for too long, she'll poo on my area rug--she knows I HATE that!)) Other than that, no accidents..she "pee pad" trained!:thumbup: After your baby comes, it's def gonna take some time for your girls to adjust..A piece of advice, when she's born (assuming that you'll be in the hospital for a few nights), have hubby bring home a piece of your baby's clothing (the hospital knit hats are popular) for the furbutts to smell and maybe even play with...I know hubby did that with Daisy (He brought home a knit hat that Caroline wore) and we came home and she did alot of "sniffing" the car seat, etc.. Good luck Suzy and you know you can talk to me about anything! ((HUGS)) |
