Lola won't poo on a pee pad! My 14 week old yorkie pup refuses to poo on her pee pads. She is pretty consistent about peeing on them and very rarely makes mistakes. However, she has only ever pooed on the pad twice ever. She goes everywhere in the apartment randomly, with a few favorite spots which I have repeatedly doused with Nature's Miracle. I have picked her up countless times in the middle of doing her business and moved her to the pee pad and rewarded her with praise and treats when she finishes on the pad, but this doesn't seem to get through to her. I've also tried bringing her to the pad when I see her sniffing around like she might have to go, but usually she will just sit on the pad and stare at me rather than go. I've also tried extra pee pads in her favorite poo spots, but she won't go on them, she'll just go somewhere else. I've tried putting her poo on the pads to give her an idea of where she should go... I've tried housetraining spray... I feel like I've tried all of the avenues I can think of! Has anyone else had this problem? Can you make any suggestions? Any ideas about why she might be doing this? Thanks! |
Do you have more than one pad down? Sometimes they wont poo where they pee and vice versa |
I had the same problem and we just gave up and said "ok we were trying to be nice and not make you go out in this cold" we started to put her out side to potty and we are a 100% more successful on the potty training. Sometimes somethings just don't work for some puppies. |
I had three pads down at once - she peed on all of them but wouldn't poo. I feel so bad making her go outside since it's so cold in New England right now... she shivers and refuses to go anyway. I'll try taking her out more frequently though, maybe that will help. |
Don't give up, she's only 14 weeks old, just keep doing what you're doing, she'll catch on. She just needs more time to mature, if she's figured out to pee on the pad, she'll figure out to poo on it, too. :) |
We are in Northwest Indiana and we have pretty cold temps right now we have a deck that has a wall on it so that the wind stays off her but even so we only leave her out for maybe 5 minutes. But it just seemed that she is picking up on the going outside faster than going on the pee pads. We try to watch her like a hawk and take her out at the first sign of a squat. when she would start to poo and we pick her up and put her on the pee pad she would stop going, but when we do that and take her outside she finishes. Like I said I think that all dogs are different. |
Bailey never poops on his pad, he always poops next to it. which i dont mind as his pad is in the hall and its hard floor in there so i cant just clean it up with tissue, well he has been cleaning it up himself 2day :D lol xxx |
This may seem a bit gross, however it worked for Suzi. Place the poo on the pads numerous times... She see that and get the idea as to where the poo goes. Also, if she has a 'poo place " she keeps going to after you clean it up then place a pee pad there as well. My Suzi tends to prefer pooing in the hallway, so we laid down 6 pads there... She poos most of the time on the pads now. 14 weeks is still very young, she will get it eventually .Suzi is 10 months old and finally understands ! :aimeeyork |
Jack would run run run run run and then poop. For a long time he never made it on the pad. He is 5 now and makes it 99% of the time. It just takes time. I think pad training is way harder than training a dog to go outside. There is more of a distinction between the space when your making your dog do their business outside versus on a little pad in one specific corner of the house. Just keep doing what your doing and eventually your baby will get the hang of it. I live in Chicago and taking a 5 and half pound dog go outside in the dead of winter just didn't seem right to me. So I hung in there and went through A LOT of tissues from having to pick up little poops in random corners before he got the hang of it. When you feel discouraged just come here and post...there are always words of encouragement! |
Okay, this is so not funny, but I read the title of your post, and thought, "If Lola won't poo on a pee pad, why don't you get her a poo pad?" Can you tell I'm really tired??? :wink5: Seriously, though, you got good suggestions. A second pad might work. When I moved Lexi from outside to inside using pee pads in a litter pan, I did take her poop with a paper towel and just smear a little bit of it on the pad, so she would get the scent and, hopefully, know to go there. It seemed to work - or else I just got lucky! |

Mine won't poo on a pad if it has pee on it. It has to be a fresh one. Also It took both Zoeybear and Baby Chloe longer to poo on the pad. They got the pee right away, but for some reason the poo takes longer. It sounds like you are doing a good job. Maybe just a little more time. Good luck. |
