Have taken in a very young puppy... 1 Attachment(s) So we have have taken in a very young pup today.. She is about 4 weeks old.. We think... The breeder had to get rid of the pup... Dont ask why... My question is.. Breeder told us she is used to eat wet puppy dry food already.. She drinks water and has a healthy appetite.. She doesnt walk must but sleeps most of the day.. Now my question is.. Should we bottle feed her milk or will she be ok for now?? Enclosed is a picture of her and Max making a funny face :-) PLease respond.. We want to keep her and love her already!!! |
I would try it in a bowl with ground up puppy food to thicken it. See if she can eat it. If not then you may have to bottle feed. Shes very young. Congratulations on the new puppy. |
WOW!! She is very very young. I would take her to the vet ASAP to have her checked out. The vet can assist you on how to care for such a young pup. You definitely need to have some Nutrical at home. Good Luck! |
Oooh that IS so young... I would call your Vet and ask if she needs extra supplementation I would assume that she does The other part of the equation is her emotional growth Keep her in a pen....and see if your other dog will sleep with her Close contact will be important and it will comfort her Best fo luck with your little one It's going to be a rocky 3-4 weeks but she'll do good if you give her what she needs |
Thanks for your responses... She is eating lots and lots.. drinking plenty of water.. Sleeps almost all day.. Only to wake up to go pee and poop... Max gives her lots of love & kisses... Fortunately its Lunar New Year vacation this entire week all of us are home this week to take care of her.. I dont know if Max will sleep with her yet. But we have decided to take her into the bedroom with the heaters on the next many days. We will get some karo syrup tomorrow and mix with her wet food and buy some vitamins as well. Hope that the vet opens on Wednesday already... She is responding well to us and Max.. So far it looks promising.. This is her second day! |
The picture is so cute, they look like best friends already! As long of you follow everyone advice, I'm sure that she will be okay. She sounds like she is eating well so that is a good start! |
I would supplement her diet with Puppy Goat Milk you can find this at Petsmart, They love it and it will make her strong. Also feed kibble. You can mix the Goat Milk with the kibble to and warm it for her and I would feed 3 or four times a day. You need to keep her strong. Good Luck and keep us posted |
OMG she is adorable! If Max won't sleep with her, get a soft stuffed animal that is about her size and let her sleep with that. We bought Daisy Mae a hedge hog puppy toy that was her size and coloring. She sleeps with it every night tucked under her chin. To this day she sleeps well at night and we have never been up with her at night because of crying. We are very lucky that she adapted to us well. ;) Good luck! ~Kathy:animal-pa |
Hi guys My daughter is a bit worried that she eats too much.. But as long as she poops 3-4 times per day I told her not to worry... You guys have great suggestions.. Our problem is that we are in China not US.. So we cant get the things that you can in US... We are currently feeding her Purina Pro Plan Small Breed Puppy formula.. But we will try to get goat milk tomorrow... Which she apparently loves.. Will go to the petshop tomorrow and look for vitamins etc etc... Tara my daughter has offerd her stufffed toy for Pookie... She is sweetie pie too ;) Thanks for the advice DaisyMaesMama & everyone else... |

Is there any breeders in your area? Maybe even a dog that has had pupps recently of a different small breed that could "Adopt" her as her own. I have seen it work before. |

Hi there! It is a very good sign that she is eating and drinking well. Not sure if she can be overfed at this age. She is adorable. :aimeeyork |
4 week old pup Hi, step one get this puppy to a vet right away! and find out what she needs foodwise and everything else, this puppy is too little to have left her mom . Good luck, keep us all posted Pam |
It sounds like the pup is eating pretty good, thats great! You can also add some puppy milk replacer to it's food if you like. Some good supplemental foods are strained meat baby food, cottage cheese, and cooked, finely diced chicken or ground beef and cooked rice. I think you sounds like a caring enough person to have all this figured out and raise a happy healthy puppy. :) Keep us updated on how she is doing, and what your vet's advice is |
