Opinion of males and females Hi, I am excited to see a message board all about yorkies! I have been going crazy about my dream:aimeeyorkyorkie that I am looking forward to getting in a couple months. I have done alot of research tryin to look for one but it is just upseting because I have to wait. Anyways, I know that this discussion has been brought up before but I just want some opinions of those of you who have/had yorkies of both genders. I really want a girl but I have read that boys are more affectionate. I know that there are girls that are just as loving. I know it depends on the dog's personality. Is there a way u can tell? |
Don't know how you would be able to tell from a pup...but I prefer the girls to boys. My girls have been EXTREMELY affectionate and momma's girls. In MY opinion, the boys are sweet...but unless you get them neutered at a early age, you'll have to deal with the hiking of the leg. Long hair gets in the "pee stream" and is gross. I bathe Dallas's tummy every couple of days because he gets "the crunchies" where pee gets on his hair. I've kept him shaved down for months now but since it's winter, I decided to let it grow out some...I don't know how long I'll be able to handle this. YUCK! |
Oh, and welcome to YT! :) |
Hee hee prepared to be confused.:D I have the exact opposite opinion. Our female Gracie is a sweetie and she loves to play and thinks her job is to protect us but she is NOT a cuddle bug. The 2 boys are complete love bugs. My daughter's boy Spike loves everyone but will drop everything to snuggle with her. My little boy Sugar thinks I'm the only person on the planet. Someone posted their opinion on this once and I find it to be 100% true in our house. Girls love you but boys are IN love with you. They're all great though so you can't pick wrong. Welcome to YT!:) eta: Spike was neutered young and has never hiked. Sugar was over a year and a half and did hike. After neutering he stopped marking and started squating but does lift to potty sometimes outside. We never had any problems with pee pee on the tummy after puppyhood. |
Both my male and my female are affectionate but my female is especially so. I would get a female if I got another one |
Every time I struggle, not just with this question, but other which one questions, the answer is so obvious ;). Get one of each :). |
Welcome. I'm partial to boys, and I don't know how you can tell how they'll be when their just pups. |
I got Brody first and I thought HE was the most loving affectionate little thing . . .he's 2 now. We just got Rhianna in December . . .SHE is such a SNUGGLEBUG! Where Brody is loving and affectionate, she just melts when she sees you . . .so it's a toss up for me . . .they are both loving and affectionate and want to be by my side . . .so I second that which the previous poster said . .. get one of each!:D |
Thanks for the welcome and the replies!:) I would love to get 2 for myself but i already have a girl chihuhaha. Plus, my mom is looking for one too but she doens't care whether it is boy or girl. I guess it just depends. It is just so hard because you want to make sure she/he is the right one for you! I will just have to go on instincts when the time is right but I appreicate your opinions because it gives me much more to think about than what I just read online. |
i have a boy and a girl. riley is a mommy's boy & madison is a daddy's girl lol. i guess its just your preference :) i must say little girls are fun to dress up though :p |
The first 2 yorkies we had 1 of each. The female was for me and male for my husband. However that switched in only a matter of days. Today we have 3 females and 1 male, the females cuddle with my husband on one couch as my only male with me on the other couch..lol. But I agree with the person who said to get 1 of each..:D Good luck with whatever you decide. |
My Suzi is 10 months old and is a little sweetheart. She wants to be with me all the times, and loves to be petted and always give kissess to everybody . I did not want to deal with the leg liffting of male Yorkies, but i know they are just as adorable as the females! I think what is more inportant is the temperment of the puppy and if it mathes your personality and lifestyle :aimeeyork |
Welcome! I have a boy. He is a total wuss and loves to cuddle. I think he's a cinch to groom, but I keep him in a puppy cut. He's never humped anything as far as I know (he's neutered). He does like to mark, but honestly, it's CUTE! I agree that temperment is probably the most important quality, regardless of sex. I think you might want to get a male since you already have a female dog.... Honestly, I think the biggest question is, are you going to want to dress your dog up in lacy dresses? ;) |
girls!!! girls! girls girls girls girls girls girls girls girls girls girls girls yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah i lik girls |
boys 100%!!!! |
i have a boy. He is great most of the times. I love him to death but he doesn't like to dress up. If I have a choice, I would go for a girl so I can dress her up in cute dresses. However it depends on you. My husband chose my baby for me so I didn't have a choice. |
I know you can't really generalize, but I've read and it's been my experience that boys favor their moms and the girls are daddy's girls. I have one of each and that's been the case here. Right now Joey is snuggled on my lap and Sadie is asleep on the couch. If my boyfriend were here, she would be on his lap. She's more excited to see him than me, although she is affectionate to me, just not like my little boy. |

We've had yorkies since before I was born. My mom and my grandma had girls when I was born and they had very different personalities, My grandma's yorkie wouldn't walk anywhere and only loved my grandpa she hated everyone else. My moms yorkie thought I was her baby, was very smart and affectionate.. she slept on my dads head. And I have a boy now and I love him he loves everyone and is a cuddle bug, he's very smart, but my friend has his half brother and he was exactly like my grandma's dog and my mom calls my pup nikki jr (nikki was my moms yorkie) so I think it depends on the pup and the way he/she is raised I think that no matter which you get you'll love them no matter what. I originally wanted a girl but I fell in love with teddy at first sight lol. |
