Knitting Does anyone have simple knitting instructions for a Yorkie sweater. My baby is 2 pounds and I can't find a small enough sweater for her. I bought one that she refuses to get into because the legs are so tight; it's an XXsmall. I thought if I could knit one and just leave openings for the front feet it would work out. She will probably get bigger and I hate to spend another $10 on a sweater. Thank you from a true dedicated Yorkie lover (like the rest of you.) Judy |
Sorry I don't have any knitting patterns, But you may want to try and make a sock sweater for your little one. There is instructions on this site how to make one Pebbles is only 1.6 lbs so I know how hard it is to find clothes. Hope this helps. |
thanks Where do I go to find the sock sweater. Thanks, Judy |
If you email me at shaunna_davies@hotmail.com I can send you several knitting patterns. To make a sock sweater just take a sock, cut the top off, cut two leg holes, and voila! There's a picture of Missy in my album wearing one. :) |
A freind of mine knits my girls sweaters. She lives in NY and can make any size you like. If your interested let me know. |
Socks 4 Attachment(s) Here are a few pics of the sock sweaters I made. She has more in pink, purple, etc. They are really cute. Just make sure you get a fabric that stretches for puppy growth. I made these in November and they still fit her. She's 14 wks old and 29 ozs. Attachment 262604 Attachment 262605 Attachment 262606 Attachment 262607 |
... and here are some sweaters 3 Attachment(s) My mom lives with us is 69. Her place is attached to ours. She has had cancer, strokes and many other medical issues. She can't do much at all anymore but sit; she is an avid reader and knits so she has starting making a sweater for each of the puppies and Yorkies we have. You can see if you like any of these patterns and I can get you a copy of it. Does anyone have a yorkie pattern of knitting or some other kind of pattern? I would love to give something to my mom to see what she could come up with. Attachment 262610 Attachment 262611 Attachment 262613 She wants to make sure that each puppy that goes to their Forever Family takes one of her sweaters that she made home with them. She has also knitted all of our Christmas stockings and makes preemie hats and booties for me to take the hospital for all the little preemie babies that are born. My youngest, Alexis, was a preemie and didn't have anything to keep her head and feet warm outside the incubator, so my mom wants each preemie baby to have something. And she uses that really soft chenille, it's so soft and wonderful. So any pattern she has that you would like, just let me know.:) |
If you have a craft store near you like Micheal's or AC Moore you can go in the doll section and get doll sweaters I have done that and they fit fine. |
knitting I tried to e-mail Shaunna Davies for the patterns but it didn't go through. I bought a book off of Amazon.com called Knitting For Dogs by Porter. The sweaters are too big and too glitzy for her and I do not do a good job downsizing stitches. I just want something simple but will try the sock recipes. If it doesn't work and you see a person in the Asheville area with shoes and no socks you will know it is me. Judy FOR THE LOVE OF YORKIES |

Hmm, I've never had an email not come through to me. Are you remembering the underscore _ in between? |
ohhhh i hope i'll be good enough to knit mickey a sweater! i only know how to knit straight :( i'm going to make him a scarf though :P hehe |
No, I didn't put any _. Thanks, Judy |
Sock Shirt Directions Judy, I had to go find this in my "Bookmarks" but finally did. So here are the instructions for the shirt. MAKE: Blog: HOW TO - Make a dog sweater from a sock On the directions, it doesn't instruct you to stitch around the leg openings and at the end of the sock where you cut. I stitch it because after they are cut, the sock tends to fray after wearing and washing and the leg openings get really big and your baby's legs fall out. I hope this helps some. |
XXS Sweater for Dani, with measurements 4 Attachment(s) Here is the most recent sweater my mom made. This is the same pattern as the ones below. The reason they look different is that she just adds in different variations or different types of yarn, for example, the white fuzzy yarn in the pastel sweater. That way they will look different. Unfortunately I cannot find the person's post right now, but I remember reading of a woman who found a teddy bear sweater at the Dollar Tree which fit her Yorkie perfectly... a sweater for teddy bears, that is. I may have the actual name of the dollar store wrong but I'm fairly certain that's what she wrote. Sorry I couldn't reference it for you but I remember thinking it was a great idea for a really tiny puppy! |
We have a Dollar General and a Family Dollar in our small town of 2500 people. They have those two stores and the Dollar Tree's in Abilene about 25 miles from our house so I'll go check them this week. That sounds so cute. I would love to see them in a teddy bear sweater, especially the boys. Plus I'm trying to find some clothes to go with Jake for whenever he finds his Forever Family. Thanks for letting us know. I just LOVE those sweaters!!!! They are cuter than any sweater I have purchased!!!!! Darling!! |
I forgot to put the measurement of that shirt and Dani. Dani from neck to tail was 9" and around her girth was 9" So when mom used the baby yarn and the size 3 needle it came out perfect. Quote:

Pink Sweater with 3 hearts 3 Attachment(s) Here is another sweater my mom just finished. She made it a little longer so she could grow. It actually fits her fine as it covers her tail and that ribbon bow hits right at the end of her hiney which is so cute. Then underneath it's still cut far enough up her tummy where she doesn't tinkle on it. This is my favorite one so far. Attachment 264081 Attachment 264082 Attachment 264083 |
Knitting instructions Thank you for the knitting instructions for that sweater. Your little one is adorable. As soon as I finish what I am knitting now, I will try it. I've put all kinds of sweater-like things on her. She has a small car seat and it amazes me when I take her out how she gets out of her clothes. I glance at her when driving and she is often sleeping so I don't know how or when she wiggles out of her things. Bewildered at the yorkie technology. Judy |

I spent the weekend playing. I crocheted a one piece outfit with 4 legs, made and decorated two jean jackets, one plaid jacket, a fun fur vest, a cute, little, pink tutu and crocheted another sweater. I"m half way through another one piece outfit. I'll post pictures later this week. My camera went to Hawaii with my 20 yo son. My 17 yo daughter tells me that I'm now officially the "crazy dog lady" LOLOL. Michele :-) |
